Would it be a good idea to break the study design dot points further?
Has anyone done this?

I  don't know if anyone has done this formally but some students will go through the entire study design dot point by dot point and ask themselves what could be tested? do I know this? which is sort of breaking down the study design into smaller and smaller concepts

It would definitely be useful during exam revision to make sure you have covered everything.

Reinforcing what sine has said,
Going through the study design and breaking down the dot points further would be a great way to revise content and help get a solid understanding of VCAA want you to know. I don't think trying to break down the study design prior to learning the content would be particulalrly usefull.

I am not aware of any resources that actually break each study design dot point down into more specific points, however there are plenty of notes that go through the content relevant to each dot point such as these fantastic unit 3 and unit 4 notes from the user PhoenixxFire.
