Hi, I wasn't entirely sure where to ask but im hoping to start the commerce and comp sci double next year after receiving the vice chancellor scholarship offer and had a few qs i was hoping someone could please help with.
firstly would i have classes with people doing commerce but not comp sci? i have a few friends who are doing eng/comm.
I wasn't sure if what laptop i buy mattered. i was looking at a mac book but would windows be better for comp sci?
and lastly does the vice chancellor scholarship offer any services or programs or is it just monetary?

Thanks heaps :)

You will definitely have classes with people doing commerce but not comp sci. There could be people studying absolutely any double degree but as long as one of them is commerce you'll be in there classes. You may also have some people from outside a Commerce degree in there because especially in first year the classes tend to be generalized.

Yeah windows would be better for Comp sci. The people with Macs I've noticed tend to have problems with the uni software and what not. All round everything just becomes much easier with a windows laptop.

Unit classes aren't split up in terms of degrees, so someone taking the same unit as you won't necessarily be doing the same (double) degree as you. For example, Engineering has a common first year, so people you meet in those classes will definitely be doing Eng, but they could be enrolled in many different double degree pairings (or they could be doing a single degree). You being the same classes as your friends for your Eng units is also dependent on if you all manage to get into the same class when you allocate preferences for or adjust your timetable.

Unfortunately, I can only answer your first question with confidence. To do with your device, I've vaguely heard people recommend a Windows OS for CS and Eng due to the software you're required to be able to use, though I'm not entirely sure. Hope others chime in!

Depends on the type of Vice Chancellor's Scholarship you have been offered:
VC's Scholarship for Achievement - money + Monash Minds program (first year uni leadership program)
VC's Scholarship for Excellence - just money (but more than the Achievement scholarship)
VCE: Psych | Eng Lang | LOTE | Methods | Further | Chem
Uni: Bachelor of Science (Hons) - genetics
Current: working (sporadically on AN)
