Thanks you guys for reading and complimenting this guide and i've enjoyed helping a lot of you throughout the year . But due to the fact that there has been a lot of views , i'm starting to have an uneasy feeling that i'm providing some kids with an unfair advantage to others .  I''ve also been extremely busy in the past couple of months and i don't see it getting any easier so i don't think i will have much time soon to provide many people with assistance  . Moderators/administrators if you want feel free to delete this thread .

5% rule for the year 8 ---> 9 entry, and if memory serves me correctly, Verbal had 60 questions, no?? O.o

Overall, should be great help for future test-takers

With this 5% rule, does it mean 5% of all a school will be admitted into a select entry school, or 5% of those who sit the test?

Hi Daenerys , the rule means that 5 % of cohort from a year level will be admitted .

It means that only a maximum of 5% of a Year 8 cohort can come to the selective schools. For example, if a cohort has 100 students and 7 made the cut, the top 5 would be selected and the next 2 would be eligible for a principal's discretion interview (which doesn't follow the 5% rule).

Just an addition: I know someone (under principal's discretion) who got into Mac.Rob without sitting an interview. I think her written application was good and she was accepted based on that (not too sure, but definitely without an interview).

was this person accepted in year 8 or year 9 ? Because i thought that only applies in y9

Whoops sorry, don't want to cause misunderstandings. Yep, Year 8 going into 9 (I was pretty surprised when I found out they accepted people without interviews) Not going into 10,11,12- like you said!

This guide is great might be sending my sister over to read it for this year
If anyone needs any advice, feel free to PM me. Although I entered through normal Year 9 offers in early August (no principals discretion or late offers) My close friend was accepted to my school in Year 10, so she would be able to answer any questions about that process if I can't.

Both examinations have a different procedure to assessing the students who apply — albeit some sections are the same.

I'm guessing two threads were made to avoid confusion between the two assessments.
