Disclaimer for anyone picking subjects:

Scaling is used to make sure all subjects can be compared on the same scale. Subjects that scale-up don't necessarily improve your atar. Specialist maths scales 12 points up due to the cohort being extremely competitive which makes it really hard to score a high raw score thus the high scaling is given as compensation for the difficulty of obtaining high raw scores. Choosing subjects that scale highly such as specialist maths and Latin does not guarantee someone to do well in those subjects and get a high ATAR. You are generally going to maximise your atar by picking subjects you are interested in and thus more motivated to study for them (obviously those can also be high scaling). So the sole reason you pick/don't pick a subject should not be scaling.

I agree pick the subjects you love to study  :). The reason most students come to a site called "ATAR Notes" is to get a high ATAR, scaling facts are useful in this endeavour....
"ATAR Notes is the leading online study community for students hoping to achieve a high ATAR!"
