Title: Marks Required For Certain Study Score ESTIMATE
Post by: kido_1 on November 12, 2007, 05:10:47 pm
Phew, after all that sweating and nerves throughout the paper, Exam 2 is over and so is Exam 1.

So what do you reckon you need to get to get a:
a)50
b)47-49
c)45
d)40
E)35
f)30

NB: I used higher SS, because FSN'ers represent a pretty skewed population(=comparitively really smart)

Btw, everyone in my school and that I know found Exam 2 long and pretty challenging.

I'd be interested to see what kind of scores are required for a 37-38.

I'd like to know this as well... I'm wondering whether I can still get a 40...

You might find my estimates a bit silly/out of touch, but here goes:

50- 115+ across the 2 papers

45- 100+ across the 2 papers

40-90+ across the two papers

30- 50+ across the 2 papers.

whats done is done

just concentrate on your other exams and then just wait till you get your enter/study scores

the more you look at the answers the shitter your going to feel (well the majority of us anyway)

kido_1, i sure hope you're close to the truth..most people found it quite hard, so you never know what will happen.

As a guide, based on the really difficult 2004 cohort (proportionally)

40: 17 marks loss across two papers
45: Drop 6 marks across two papers
50: Expect perfect or one of two off. The state is inhabited by freaks you know.

EDIT: These are very ROUGH estimations only.

It's not easy to guess as I've only just realised the normalising process is not uniform.

would you expect it to be much different for CAS?
Title: Marks Required For Certain Study Score ESTIMATE
Post by: kingmar on November 12, 2007, 06:58:31 pm
Yes. I cannot guess CAS. The cohort is too small to make even a rough estimation.

Lift those predictions up a couple of points.

With only 700 in the group, you know only 40 get 40+. (Based on Chinese)

So, in that case, I assume the cut-offs are higher. But read the stats report and make your own predictions - I can't download off the VCAA website for some reason.

Actually I calculated from Exam 2 in 2004.

You can get 100/110= 145/160
and get a 45

You forgot that the scores are doubled.

Halve that. 145/160 halved is a 7 mark difference.

Go figure.

I just looked at the 2004 stats which really relieves my pain. That year you could get a 66% on exam 2 and still get an A. So, I think I might have snuck in to the A range for both exams. If so: Yessss. If not: oh well, I'm not really a methods kid anyway. My SACs are good enough to be scaled to an A as well, I think.

What my situation is:
A+ for SACS (Top rank at school(10% got ss>40 last year))
Exam 1: 39/40
Exam 2: 75-79/80

I am really hoping for high 40s(I actually wanted a 50 but too bad.. )

I think you're easily in contention for high 40s, and I very much doubt that ANYONE in the state got perfect marks on both exams. Like, it's possible, but because of its time constraints and difficulty relative to other exams, it would have been easier this year to drop marks due to careless errors than other years, I think.

How important is your SACs to your score.

you need to take into account that 2007 vce methods exam 2 has multiple choice questions.

2004 vcaa methods exam 2 is pure analysis questions. no mc.
Title: Marks Required For Certain Study Score ESTIMATE
Post by: kido_1 on November 13, 2007, 07:32:37 pm
Yeh, true. MC's although easier can be quiet tricky and time consuming.
Title: Marks Required For Certain Study Score ESTIMATE
Post by: Eriny on November 13, 2007, 07:38:30 pm
Does that mean that you'd have to get a higher score than what you would for 2004? Because, I thought that while most MCs were quite easy, there were a couple of really tricky ones.

I hope what you are saying is completely true on Dec 17th.

Btw, how did you find the test?

i reckon the median/mean will be around the 50% range.

mm i unfortunately did many many stupid silly mistakes 5 on the multiple choice, and on the linear qstns lol
and 5-10 on th extended, i knew how to do everything pretty much but i didnt hav as much time as i wanted and ye things wernt going to plan as they did at home under exam conditions, i was pretty devestated coz i really thought i was going to do well but oh well
i may re do it next yr, possibly :)
i think the mean for exam 1 will be around 50%
exam 2 i think possibly a bit lower, but thats pretty spot on
so if the mean is 40 and lets say standard deviation is 15?
two standard deviations is like 70/80 which will prob result in a pretty decent mark..... but i just pulled mean and standard deviation from nowehere :P dont listen to me :D
