☆Update: 17/02☆

Woohoo back for another update! A lot has happened in the past week. First of all, I just came back from a Study Camp and I'm seriously out of whack. (I'm deprived of my beautiful coffee). I also was able to contact the Rotary Club that sponsored me for NYSF and surprisingly they have invited me to the International Rotary Breakfast! I'm looking forward to seeing my Rotary club again and also possibly seeing some NYSF Melbournians too. I sort of want to do an exchange too through NYSF, but sadly all the times where they have events on in Singapore and Germany happen to be when VCE exams are.

On the other hand, here is some other interesting stuff that has happened:
   • I found this super good ice cream shop in Docklands that sells some of the best choc-mint ice creams that I have ever had. (Hear that whys? You should totally join me for some :P.)
   • I bought a whole pack of Muji pens the other day and have never felt so satisfied.
   • I made memes for my Physics teacher and now he puts them in the Physics room.
   • My cat is secretly plotting something. I can feel it.
   • Very odd thought here, but when I was catching a tram down to the State Library, I have never noticed how amazing Melbourne architecture is. (Especially Flinders Street. Never noticed it during morning/afternoon peak).

Ok now onto the actual school stuff!

Physics:
Haha, it's PANIC TIME!!I have a SAC this Friday and then less than 2 weeks later another one! I'm ready to cry because of tension and no matter how much I try, tension just doesn't want to cooperate with me. On the other hand, I LOVE projectile motion, so I guess it balances out in the end. I'm not feeling a good vibe about this SAC, but I'm hoping that my Physics teacher doesn't destroy me too much... ::)

Chemistry:
Had a mini-test (sort of like a learning checkpoint thingy) the other day and somehow got 56/57! Thank you Thermochem and now we are doing Gas Laws. We had a practical task today which was about fuels and was super fun! Chem so far has been so good but let's watch my mood change as soon as a SAC comes around the corner.

English:

~PANICKING FOR CREATIVE SAC~
We are doing Women of Troy as our creative piece and I don't think I have ever tried so hard to make a story in the form of Euripides plays. (Trying so hard to make the language style the same as Euripides). I have about 300 words left to finish my draft and then I have the Statement of Intention to do straight after. I am hoping this SAC turns out well and that it is or pretty close to full marks. The SAC is due next week and straight after we have the beautiful Argument Analysis!

PDT:
2 SACS in two weeks, one this Wednesday and one next week Monday morning.
Can Ashmi survive? To be continued. 8)

Methods:
Nothing is happening in Methods and I'm really glad that's the case! We are now doing transformations and then there will be a SAC soon. Feeling pretty good about Methods!

Recently, I've also been looking at different universities courses and possible majors to do. I'm still pretty set on doing the Bachelor of Science/Masters of Engineering combo at Melbourne, but I'm everywhere when it comes to picking a major.
I've been thinking of doing Electrical systems and also doing subjects in the bioengineering systems so when I do get to Masters, I can choose between Electrical and Biomedical? I don't know how Biomedical came into my head, but it has and now it's stuck there with Electrical. It's still a long way away so I would like to see what I end up putting on my VTAC preferences.

Well, that's it for this weeks update of Ashmi's Journal! Stick around for the next update sometime soon! ;D

Nice to hear from you Ash! Congrats on smashing the chemistry mini test  ;D

What did you do on study camp? Like is it study 24/7 or do they do different activities and stuff?

Thank you Choco!! ;D
Study camp was surprisingly not 'study' camp😂. (Well it sort of was in a way)
We did activities like study skills, time management and then some more fun stuff like Zumba ;D
It was more of a bonding camp and just figuring out stuff like ideas to run the school better, hearing from past students, guest speakers and just having a relaxing time.
I barely had time to study (hence why I'm panicking now woohoo!), it was more like 'procrastination' camp but in a good way!

re: tension

A generally good approach is:

1.  Draw a diagram
2. Find the acceleration of the whole system. You can do this by adding all the masses and forces acting on the system together (keep in mind that some forces may be acting in the opposite direction and thus negative) & using f/m = a. Recognise that the acceleration of each component of the system will be the same as the acceleration of the system
4. identify that mass(es) that the tension is pulling on using your diagram from step 1.
5. use f=ma to find the net force on those masses (a is from step 3 and m is from step 4)
6. Add/subtract as appropriate other forces acting on those masses from the net force to identify the magnitude of the tension force.
7. Check you have presented the tension using the right units and fully answered the question

Thank you so much, Bri! ;D
This makes it a lot clearer on how to approach these types of problems (I have had major issues when finding more than 1 tension. An example would be 3 boxes and 2 ropes attached in between). Hopefully, with a bit more practise tension shouldn't be too much of an issue!

Thank you so much, Arty! Going to need the good vibes definitely! (Sending you an equal amount of luck too ;D)

I just came back from a Study Camp and I'm seriously out of whack.
I'm probably very late but how was it? Was it a lot of fun or a bit more on the stressful side?

I never really knew the hype revolving Muji pens until my friends got them for me for my birthday. Ever since, my filthy notes took a great turn.

As someone with a cat, I can relate. Since I moved, I've been away from my cat a few days and I think he's already got it all planned. My mom told me he's been in my room for a while and also spending time alone at the basement (that's where all the wicked things happen though).

That's an very different opinion to someone who goes past almost everyday. I just notice the amount of bird poop and get scared from all those birdies flying around.

Good luck for all of your sacs. I know how annoying it is to have them scheduled near each other (some of my friends have their Bio and Jap sac on the same day). Stay strong and ace all of them!!!

Both my 3/4 sacs happen to be next term (including Methods). I'm surprised your Methods sac is coming up so soon. Either way, good luck again!

I've said this a million times already but good luck, good luck, good luck! Believe in yourself and remember to take care, even if it's doing small things like taking a break or having a nap. You will get through this and ace everything :)

Very stressful because I couldn't do any work on it🤣. A very fun camp but wasn't really for me as the workshops were already stuff I felt comfortable in. Other than that pretty good!

I never really knew the hype revolving Muji pens until my friends got them for me for my birthday. Ever since, my filthy notes took a great turn.
Muji is a blessing to this world, saving poor handwriting and turning it into eligible words :P. Physically cannot go back anymore to normal pens.

As someone with a cat, I can relate. Since I moved, I've been away from my cat a few days and I think he's already got it all planned. My mom told me he's been in my room for a while and also spending time alone at the basement (that's where all the wicked things happen though).
He is definitely up to something crafty. I guess it's just a matter of time to see what he comes up within the next few days ;D ('Cat updates with Chopsticks' should be a whole other journal😂).

That's an very different opinion to someone who goes past almost everyday. I just notice the amount of bird poop and get scared from all those birdies flying around.
Ok now that you have put it like this I fully agree with you :P. I go past it every day too but now that you highlighted that, I don't think I can look at Flinders the same way again.

Good luck!!! I believe in you and I know you will do great. Definitely helps when you genuinely enjoy the content/

Aww Chopsticks thank you!!!
Honestly, for Chem, I haven't been writing any notes, rather, I just do a whole pack of practise questions (Literally the only reason I'm getting through this. Application > Remembering Content). *Sending positive Chem Vibes* I know you can do it Chopsticks! I BELIEVE IN YOU.

Lucky to have a Methods SAC next term!! Our SACs are being split up and are more frequent (I don't know if that's a good thing but I guess we will find out). Good luck for your SACs too Chopsticks!!

That's a really cool course. Meanwhile, I'm growing ever so indecisive about what I want to do. It's good to know you know exactly what you want to do (if only I was actually dead set on a course).

Don't worry Chopsticks, you still have plenty of time! If you told the 2019 me that I wanted to do Electrical + Biomed Engineering, I would have laughed my head off ;D. Still not 100% on it but so far, it's the only course that involves stuff I like? Right now, I'm just trying to pick something that covers a range of stuff I enjoy (physics, chem, maths, design) and if I do decide to change, at least it means I've given everything else a go and that certain things work/doesn't work for me. I'm definitely very far from being dead set Chopsticks but just keep in mind that a flexible course is a really good choice if you don't have a specific thing you want to do.

I will send you a wave of GOOD LUCKS any day!!
GOOD LUCK!!!Treat yourself and look after your health Chopsticks! I'm pretty sure you will be fine and do some amazing things this year. (You are the one that will be acing stuff!)

✰Update: 1/03✰

First day of the month and I'm pretty overdue for another update for this journal. Within the past few days a lot has happened, a little too much for my liking. This week, I'm going to the International Women's Day Breakfast and also Luna Park (thank you Physics!). Also pretty excited to visit the Top Designs exhibition later this month too! ;D

Here is what has been happening outside my school life:
   • A lot of photo-editing. No joke, I have about 30 photos to edit in the past few days but it will be so worth it in the end.
   • I went to the Japanese Summer Festival at Fed Square last weekend! (And in cosplay too~)
   • My Muji pens have run out... :'(
   • Had really good Korean BBQ the other day.
   • I have been addicted to "Rachie's Kawaki wo Ameku English cover" and I cannot stop repeating it. (I can relate to this song spiritually right now). Also, Sam Luff's Veil and Rumor by Police Piccadilly have been so good!

Also, since you have read this far, here is a photo I finished editing this morning! It's from the Japanese Summer Festival last weekend,
Spoiler
I don't know how the photographer (@tee_do_photo) I work with makes me look good but he does somehow🤣
If you like to support me on this type of stuff highly recommend checking out my IG page @ashmicos~

Ok now onto the school life! This is where things start to derail really badly.

I admit, I haven't looked after myself at all. I feel like everything I do is not enough and that I won't get the scores I need to get my first preference. I really do feel like everything is spiralling out of control, but there are certain subjects right now that are holding it together.

✰Physics✰ (Incoming rant)
Ok, this is the subject that is causing me so much grief and frustration right now. I did a SAC on this last week and I was really down for the following week because I thought I did really badly. Turns out I got lucky and somehow barely got into the 90% - 100%. The score might be on the lower end of the scale, but I'm just really glad it didn't come out any worse. I have another SAC for Physics this Wednesday on Springs and I'm less prepared for this one than the first one I had. I'm not going to lie here, I am absolutely terrified for this. No matter how hard or how much work I do for this subject, I never get a good result for it, I don't know why either and it is taking a lot of time and I'm starting to neglect other subjects that have higher potential.
My main problem with this subject is SPRINGS. I have had so much trouble with them and literally the other day had a nightmare on Springs (it was horrific). I don't understand that when you rearrange formulas for the spring constant, that when you do it with energy and force it comes out with different answers. Also, graphing Energy-time graphs (I understand how to do Energy-Displacement but oh boy energy-time graphs). I am not feeling good for this SAC at all, springs are going to be the death of me at this rate.
Ok there is my rant for Physics done and dusted.

✰PDT✰
Why hello PDT my fav subject right now! 8) Had a SAC for this last Monday and I'm pretty sure I did well in it. We are onto the research stage for the folio and I have begun to print out small sections of my folio one at a time. Will post a few pics when it comes together soon. Our class is having a competition on who will reach 100 pages in their folio first (thanks to this girl who got premier's in 2018 for setting a high standard). I'm about 20 pages in so far which is not too far away from the goal but I'm excited to see who will reach the goal first.

✰English✰
Had a SAC last Friday for this and I think it turned out pretty good! It was a creative SAC and I wrote my response in the writing style of Euripides which was challenging (and sort of risky move) but it looks like it worked out. Next up Argument Analysis

✰Chemistry✰
Chem SAC in two weeks from now on AOS 1 and not finding it too challenging at the moment. I'm having a bit of problems remembering the Fuels types (have a memory of a goldfish) but everything else is okay. I've had some pretty good results for Chem so far which I'm hoping will be the same for my upcoming SAC.

✰Methods✰
Oh look it's Methods, aka the subject I've been neglecting. SAC is in 3 weeks and the content has been really enjoyable (hence why I have barely done any work). Nothing is really happening in this subject, but oh wait I have to run from my excursion from Top Designs and somehow magically get back to school on time to do this SAC. The second last day of term is going to be hectic for me.

That's it for this update! Thanks for reading if you made it this far! 8)

Heyoo! Finally caught up with all the missed entries wow! Also 100 PAGES OR 200 PAGES WTHH! That’s like an actual full length thesis right?! Good luck, I’m sure you’ll ace it!  ;D

The aim is to get to 100 pages and I do agree with you yesh.weerakkody, it is starting to look more like a design thesis rather than a folio...

A lot has been going on with it and this weekend has mainly been focused on trying to finalise the first 20 pages before I move onto the next criteria!
*Stay tuned for a journal update soon as I'll post some sample folio pages*

✰Update: 9/03✰
Update time!! (Before I get started, anyone part of KLD 2020 that is going to the 'Day Zero' Event? I want to meet some new people!)

Ok, last week was seriously jam-packed. So much happened I don't even know where to start. Well for starters I went to the International Women's Day Breakfast at Crown and was probably one of the most entertaining social events I've been too. I got to meet a girl who is actually on exchange from Switzerland who is part of my Rotary club (and actually does PDT WOOHOO). I also signed up to do more volunteering through my Rotary Club and got to meet the people that helped sponsor me for NYSF. We went to Luna Park on Friday to 'feel the force' and had a blast/

Now here is a mini-summary of what's been happening outside of school:
   • I finished editing a whole pack of photos! Only down side is that I'm still waiting to get my Adobe subscription renewed by the school.
   • I've been trying to finish making a few cosplays and also trying to figure out which new ones to make next. (I have a stack of characters to choose from and so far, have no clue who to do next)
   • The new song I've been addicted to is Nano's 'Inside My Core' and I'm eagerly waiting for a full version.
   • I'm really craving mint chocolate. Like really badly craving (especially ice-cream)
   • VCE Physics lecture at Melb Uni begin this week!! I'M SO EXCTIED LIKE, YO FINALLY THEY ARE BACK!

So how am I feeling? Confused. Lost. Unsure of what to do.
It's mainly got to do with picking future courses and I'm sort of having that STEM vs Art problem again. Part of me wants to do a design course, like game design and then part of me wants something STEM based. Right now engineering is really the only thing that has the best of both worlds but time will tell I guess!

Ok, now a really brief update on subjects:

✰Physics✰
Hahaha Physics. Had a SAC on Springs last Wednesday and my lord, I have just realised my hatred for drawing sine graphs that model acceleration/time of a spring. (It takes so much time to make that smooth curve if you get what I mean?). Other than that, Physics is GOLD. I love the content in this subject and it's so interesting to learn about! I do have a SAC again on the very last day of school...

✰PDT✰
Hello PDT! A lot has been happening and my folio is already starting to be bigger than it should be...
I'm really excited to start printing everything out and I'm really liking how it is all coming together.
Right now everything is everywhere.
Spoiler
Some sample pages. Haven't finished but shows you what I've been up too.

✰English✰
With the SAC done last week I feel so relieved and now we are doing Argument Analysis. I have a piece due tomorrow and I've barely started so that's what I'm going to do now.

✰Chemistry✰

I have a SAC next week. Someone help me please. Guess who is cramming? Yep it's Ashmi.
Overall, Chem has been pretty good but I'm definitely not looking forward to the upcoming SAC. (I don't even feel prepared at all).

✰Methods✰
Not cramming yet as this SAC is the second last day of school. I will be next week though~
Probably should do a one-page summary sheet for the SAC soon now that I'm writing in this journal.

Pretty boring update but that is all that really happened last week. See you guys later! ;D

I also signed up to do more volunteering through my Rotary Club and got to meet the people that helped sponsor me for NYSF. We went to Luna Park on Friday to 'feel the force' and had a blast/

Kind of keen for the KLD event but not sure what lecture I'd want to attend, do you have an idea for which one you want to do?

Also Luna park sounds fun and that's fantastic that you are volunteering, very inspiring ;D

Have a great rest of the week  8)

Hey hey Choco!! ;D

Thank you for your kind words!😭💕. Means a lot to know someone out there likes my folio! Oh lord I'm so glad that Physics is done but I have another one in two weeks haha.

For the KLD event, I put as my first preference 'Engineering System Design 1' (cause Ashmi over here loves her maths and design in one place) and then for second preference I put 'Introduction to Mathematics'. (I didn't really see myself being able to sit through a lecture about Australian wildlife.... Give me an update when you pick which lectures you are going too! :D)

Luna Park was amazing, especially the bit where we forced our Physics teacher onto the twin dragon boat ride that goes up and down (he has a massive fear of heights).

Thank you so much Choco for checking in and I hope you have an amazing week too! ;D
