If you were doing an experiment to test the effect of co2 on plant growth and you were keeping the plants in separate chambers in a glasshouse  what type of co2 regulator can be used to regulate the amount of co2 plants are exposed to

Could a PID controller be used and how does it work.

Also why does the concentration of co2 affect plant growth

Hi guys,
What is the difference between effector T cells and the other T cells (helper, cytotoxic and regulatory)? Because I’ve noticed that there are effector Tc and Th cells so does that mean that effector T cells are just a way of further categorizing the major types of T cells and differentiating them from memory cells? And do memory T cells basically act like effector T cells, except that they don’t need to be used yet so will wait for the second pathogen encounter in which it will act as an effector cell?

Grasshoppers are quite different to humans . The female melanoplus grasshopper has a diploid chromosomes number of 24. The male melanoplus grasshopper has a diploid chromosome number of 23. How many chromosomes would you expect to find in the gametes of males and females.

Would it be ova (egg) 12 chromosomes sperm 11.5 chromosomes or
ova(egg) 12 chromosomes sperm 11 or 12 chromosomes

Yeah, genus looks good. Can't be species since the definition we use for that is organisms that can produce a fertile offspring.
Kingdom and Phylum are both just too broad.

Aphids are insects that feed by inserting needle like mouthparts into the vascular tissue of plants. When the body of the insect is cut off leaving the mouthparts in place droplets of vascular fluid are forced out of the mouthparts. The aphid feeds on:
A the xylem where the fluid is under positive pressure
B  the phloem where the fluid is under negative pressure
C the xylem where the fluid is under negative pressure
D the phloem where the fluid is under positive pressure

Would it be c?
And
The fluid would contain:
A water and high levels of carbon dioxide
B water amino acids and sugars
C aphid faeces (wastes)
D water and mineral ions

A Guard cells lose k+ions, lose water and decrease turgor pressure
B guard cell turgor pressure decreases due to increased air pressure inside air spaces
C guard cell turgor pressure increases due to increased air pressure inside air spaces
D guard cells gain k+ions gain water and increase turgor pressure

Would it be a ??

The first part of this isn't something you need to know, don't worry about it. CO2 affects plant growth because it's an input for photosynthesis which is the process that makes glucose for the plant to use - and that glucose is needed for plant growth.

Yeah it's just to differentiate them from memory cells. Like how we say plasma and memory B cells (except B cells are different in ways other than name/lifespan). Yeah memory cells are essentially the same as the naive cells only there are more specific to the same antigen and they require less confirmation that they've bound the correct antigen (because they've already correctly identified it before). When memory cells encounter the antigen for a second (or subsequent) time, they'll differentiate into memory cells and effector cells again.

It would be ova, 12 and sperm, 11 or 12. In humans sperm determines chromosomal sex by either having an X or a Y, in grasshoppers it's determined by either having that extra chromosome or not havin it.

Enzymes make it easier for the reaction to occur, the activation energy is how much energy is needed for the reaction to occur. If you need less energy to do something, it'll be easier to do.

Nope it's D. (although aphids do also drink from xylem). You can work out the answer is D because it says that the fluid flows out of the tree - this means it's under positive pressure. The phloem in under positive pressure and the xylem is under negative pressure so it must be d.

It would be B.

The number notifications per 100,000 is better because it's more accurate. The number of cases can't be measured very well because not everyone who is infected will be tested (whereas the number of notifications is just a measure of how many cases are reported so it is actually measureable). Measuring per 100,000 is better than total cases because it allows for a comparison between groups of different sizes - you couldn't directly compare the number of cases in a population of 10,000 before vaccination to the number in a population of 23,000 after vaccination, but you can if you record the number per 100,000 population

Hey guys, what are the types of monoclonal antibodies that we need to know? In class, I learnt about conjugated and naked mAbs, but in the textbook, there are 3 types: conjugated, bispecific and humanised. I'm a little confused on which ones we're supposed to know (and the SD doesn't mention which ones either). Any help would be much appreciated!
