Hello! Any 2022 graduates around?
Does anyone have any recommendations or advice on what units 3/4 to do early? I might be able to do one next year but I've heard for some subjects it's really important to have done units 1/2 beforehand. I'm thinking of either health or psychology or media?
And what's the difference between the 3 English subjects? Which would be the most applicable?

Can't comment on Media as I didn't do it.
Health - I did 3&4 without 1&2 and was totally fine. Didn't feel at any disadvantage. The study design has since changed but I'd imagine it would be the same deal.
Psych - I did 1&2 before 3&4 but think it would probably be fine, too.
If I had to recommend any of the three based purely on what you've written, it would be HHD. Are you leaning to any in particular? :)

regarding psych, I'm currently at around the top of my class without having done 1/2 except the most important thing about psych is research methods which my teacher has briefly gone over. If you go onto 1/2 psych, learn RESEARCH METHODS.
If you don't, your marks will substantially fall . . .

@Ionic Doc, might be a dumb question but what exactly is research methods? Is it the research poster? How should I prepare for it?

Research methods is heavily applicable to the poster but it's not just that. It's your understanding of how the scientific method is applied within the scope of VCE psychology. I'd definitely recommend looking at the study design to see what the topics covered in it are and asking about anything you don't understand. If you study other sciences this will help you but it won't cover everything.
In terms of preparing, building your understanding, remembering the terms & applying it (eg practice questions) would prepare you well for 3&4

Hi Laura! Not bad, I went to Singapore around December but other than that, nothing else. As for preparing, we got loads of Methods HW, I completed 8 exercises (3 chapters) of the Cambridge Maths Methods textbook. What about you? :) :) :)

I'm also doing 1/2 methods this year (I'm Year 11 btw ;D) and I haven't touched the methods work yet. Other than doing chemistry and biology homework, I've been seeing lots of friends and going to a couple of AN lectures.
How was Singapore? How long were you there? ;D The furthest I went this holidays was Ocean Grove.

I went to Merlion( a fountain with the statue of a half fish half lion), the Singapore zoo, and the national museum. I was there for three weeks (came back to Australia on the 6th).

I do private tuition for three unit 3/4 subjects, but I can only do two unit 1/2 subjects at school. (I actually was supposed to do four - methods, specialist, physics and lit, but I changed to a selective school and they only allow me to do methods 1/2 and physics 1/2).
But it's not like I am complaining, two unit 1/2 subjects is much much less of a workload than four. Also I feel like I can spend more time studying for those 1/2 subjects , therefore quality > quantity.

haha lol.
Well tbh, it's not exactly vce subjects I am taking, the private tuition just teaches concepts that cover units 3/4 of the subjects I mentioned. If u went to james an, you would know (srsly james an went to as far as asking questions about complex numbers, and I don't get how they expect students to achieve more than 60%).
How's your studying for ebss :)

How are you guys finding remote learning at the moment?? Are any of you doing 1/2 or 3/4 subjects?

Remote learning...ehhh... I lose concentration quite a lot and I find that my classmates are quite silly when we're in the video call breakout rooms. I find it a lot more chill though as we don't get as much work and I've barely needed to take notes lol

Does this mean that our 1/2 studies might not be as relevant to what we learn in 3/4?

pretty sure 2021 is the last year where the study designs are from 2016-2021. most 3/4 subjects in 2022 will have a different study design. still mostly relevant though, only a few things change.

hello fellow year 10s, just curious but am I the only one completely procrastinating and relieved for the holidays now bc boi was term 3 a ride. but now that we're almost at term 4 im getting nervous now about year 11 bc of 3/4s + 1/2s. im sure we will all try our best tho and ace it :D
also how r exams working at ur schools for 1/2s and yr10 subjects? coz i think at this stage it's only for 1/2s... maths, english, etc will just hv test like conditions bc exams aren't allowed. enjoy ur holidays ;D

No, unfortunately I was declined from both the Monash and the Melbourne Uni programs, despite being in the top 5% of my year level and having numerous achievements and leadership awards to my name. Again, it's most definitely not all about awards and grades, and I'm grateful I received the opportunity to apply, but I am dissapointed I was declined. May I ask, what did you write about, and what leadership/awards you have which you believe granted you a place? Simply for interest sake! :)

Ahh that sucks man :( don't let it get you down, with each year comes more opportunities!
Only two other people at my school applied, which probably boosted my chances quite a bit. I talked about how I've been a student leader for the past few years at my school, and how that has allowed me to be involved in community events. I mentioned my other extra curriculars, which include being in my school's youth ministry program and social justice team (I go to a Catholic school), and how I was in my town's Easter fair as part of my boxing gym. For the other sections about aspirations and stuff, I talked about how I want to do medicine and work in places where healthcare is needed most (e.g. crisis areas, remote areas) :)

Hey,
It's definitely not an impossible goal. You still have next year and the year after, and a lot can happen in that time! If you don't get into undergrad med at Monash, it doesn't make you less of a person or less deserving of being a doctor. The med course won't be going away anytime soon - there are other ways you can get in and pursue the career you're after!

While I can relate to this, if there's one piece of advice that I would've given myself at the start of Yr 11 is that you really need to believe in yourself and believe that you can achieve your goals, because only then can you have a clearer mindset and therefore think about HOW to achieve the goals themselves as opposed to IF you can achieve them. You still have plenty of time, try to stay on top of your subjects and up to date. At least from what I saw, the people who did really well in Yr 11 were the ones who seemed like they were up to date if not ahead and took their Unit 1/2 and 3/4 subjects seriously (obviously prioritise 3/4 subjects, but don't neglect 1/2 especially with subjects like Chem). I also agree with what Im21074.
Another thing, is that rather than thinking of it as getting into undergrad med, break it down into smaller goals that might help you like aiming to do well in your 3/4 subject this year and working towards that.

Hey! Lets go through this in catagories cause why not try something new?
English: One of 2 classes where I actually have my main group of friends kinda, started of well but my last assesment I got below avergae...was really bloody sad about that cause I submitted so many pratice pieces...
Methods: Only good friends (i am friends with a couple others) with one other guy who is also in physics class, doing very well grade wise but feeling the preasure from students to not ask questions and am kinda ostrocied cause I can't relate to their struggles...
Spec: One of 2 people in class, great teacher, the other guy is a real great person (and if im being honest a tad smarter than me) but recently I have been able to pull ahead of him with grades, tho I felt like I didn't really understand the content until the day before the test RIP.
Physics: Man, it is a depressing class. I love physics, the teacher is cool but it hurts looking at kids who don't alway find the content easy. Then recentl during online learning I have been severely struggling with this 1 specific excersize which is killing my confidence.
Chemistry: Oh chem, u motherf***er. I could not understate how much I despise this subject and whilst my grades r kinda average, I am hoping to drop it for a uni extension subject which is just another source of stress looming over me.
Religion and Society 3/4: Man, my only 3/4 subject. Won't lie, it is hard. Definetely outside of my comfort zone and I am feeling some imense preasure/worry there but I think I just have to keep moving foward. Have a sac for it in 1.5 weeks but we have already started next AOS so that is an F.
Cocirricular: Chess-Went on a prolonged losing streak causing me to give up on it, yet still ended up doing well in the tournement lol. Debating-My fav one, it is very fun and we got into finals with a perfect 5 wins 0 loses. Volunteering-Cancelled for second year in a row :(
Gaming: Recently piked up Genshin Impact, very fun. Been on a Genshin grind for like 2 weeks in order to escape the crushing expectations of reality.
Family- Parents keep fighting with each other, so fam is tense. Fair bit gets taken out on me so home learning has been super rough haha...just gonna keep soldiering through it but I been thinking of picking up a job and moving out in a couple years tho thats kinda optomistoc/childish.
General mood/motivation: Exponentially deteriorating but I think i'm getting a bit better.
Friends: God I miss talking to people...been keeping contact I guess but ya know, HL sucks
TlDR: Not a happy camper but will continue trying I guess...

Not a Class of 22 member, but I did HHD last year and am doing chem this year.
In short, I think it's best to consider a) prerequisites, b) interests and c) strengths and weaknesses and consider your individual circumstances. It might be helpful to make a pros and cons list based on those things. If you don't have the prerequisites for a course, there are ways around it (e.g. bridging courses, doing postgrad study or transferring from another degree if possible). In saying that, if a subject is a prerequisite, the knowledge you learn will probably carry over quite a bit, so if you don't like a particular subject, perhaps it's good to keep that in mind. HHD 1/2 and 3/4 don't really overlap very much so you shouldn't have much trouble picking 3/4 up. I also think it's a good idea to have a read through the study designs to get an idea of what the content is about. :)

I'm doing HHD at the moment. I was doing chem for unit 1 but it was super hard and I hated it. So I would definitely recommend dropping chem for HHD.

OMG! It's been ok so far. Sooo much better since dropping chem for accounting! As far as grades go I'm a pretty average student so don't really get into too much trouble. I absolutely hate remote learning lol!

I'm starting to get ready to prepare for units 3/4 next year and was wondering if anyone had any study techniques that really work for them especially for sac and exam revision. My grades are generally pretty average but as I am aiming for an 82.5 ATAR I'd love to improve my grades so that this is possible.
The subjects I am doing next year are:
3/4 HHD
3/4 English
3/4 Physical education
3/4 Biology
3/4 Accounting

Hey everyone, I know this sounds like a bit of a plugin to the forum chat, but I just wanted to open up my message box for anyone who has questions about next year.
I might not be able to tell you how to get a 50 in chem or spec, but I can tell you how to avoid getting scores like I did.
Study tips, ways to improve on SACs and even advice on subjects as well. Of course, you might need a tutor for getting a super duper amazing, earth-shattering ATAR, but if you want to keep from falling behind and have your doubts about this year: I am more than happy to answer any questions, and give advice.
