do we have to remember blood types? i understand blood types can be calculated via punnett squares but will we be expected to remember which blood type matches with which?
Hi!
I think to be safe, all you should know is the different genes for the antigens present on blood cells (which determines if you are blood type A, B, AB or O).
Remember that blood type A can be either AA or Ai, and the same goes for B. It is important to know this in case they ask you to determine a person's blood type from a pedigree.
Remember, blood type O is ii (and i alleles are recessive).
Also remember the gene for the rhesus factor, which determines whether you are positive or negative.
Rhesus factor (for positive) is dominant over no rhesus factor (negative).
Note, however, that blood type and rhesus factor are determined separately.
Hope this helps!
