Guess what the most online figure for this year would be.

With the latest sharp increase in forum traffic, I think we may play a game in relation to that. The title of the game tells it all. All you need to do now is to post the figure which you think would be the most number of people online at once in the forums. You can check this figure going onto the forum index page and scrolling all the way down. And click on the "users online" button.

So I'll start with the guess and my reasoning.
Well the pattern of the most online tends to be on ATAR day. The second most is on Oct-Nov when the exams are. And the most tends to be ~1.2 times the second most. However with the fast rise in traffic, where it tripled, or even quadrupled means that the 1.2 rule may not be very accurate. In fact, I have not seen the site experience that sharp of a rise in traffic when the forum statistics are checked. So I think the figure would be roughly double the most online of today (and perhaps more?) so my answer is:

8560 users online

Applying complex mathematical modelling techniques, and considering the capabilities of our servers, I think this estimate would be fairly accurate:

Gonna be negative and go for a lower estimate: 6666.  It'd be real sad to see ourselves all ridiculously out-estimating this, but hopefully I'll be proved wrong!

(But if the numbers do shoot up and you catch me stalking and gently disposing of as many AN users as possible, or intentionally trying to make the site crash, you'll know why. )

Well, the number is slightly random for me.
I just think that is may be roughly double the max so far being 4217. So I just picked a ball-park number around that range. If I assume that is the second most number then most online would be (always rounded up) :
   1.1 times: 4,639
   1.2 times: 5,061
   1.3 times: 5,483
   1.4 times: 5,904
   1.5 times: 6,326
   1.6 times: 6,748
   1.7 times: 7,169
   1.8 times: 7,591
   1.9 times: 8,013
   2.0 times: 8,434
   2.1 times: 8,856
   
And I just picked a random figure between the 2.0 times and the 2.1 times. And that's where I got my number from.
