Volunteer as a VCE tutor in 2020!

Hey everyone!

The Student Welfare Outreach Team (SWOT) is currently looking for volunteer VCE tutors!

SWOT is a VCE outreach programme run under the Melbourne University Health Initiative, and sponsored by The University of Melbourne Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science. We're a program run for students, by students, with the aim of addressing educational inequity by providing free or low-cost tutoring for VCE students who attend high schools that experience educational disadvantage (whether this be due to geographic, socioeconomic, or other factors).

We're currently looking for volunteer tutors for the following VCE Units 3&4 subjects:
  • English
  • Science - Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology
  • Maths - Further, Methods, Specialist
  • Various LOTEs (Languages Other Than English)

We offer our subjects through 3 sub-programmes:

1) SWOT Week - our flagship revision week. This is held twice a year at The University of Melbourne Parkville campus - once in July (just after semester 1 uni exams finish) and again in September (during the uni semester 2 mid-sem break). Each subject will run a half- or full-day program of lectures and tutorials.

2) Masterclasses - our direct visit sub-programme. Masterclass tutors travel out to schools in metropolitan Melbourne once per school term to deliver after-school revision workshops to help students prepare for their upcoming assessments. Masterclasses allow tutors to deliver tailored classes to students in their own school environment.

3) SWOT Virtual - our online tutoring sub-programme. Virtual tutors are matched to students in regional Victoria for online, one-on-one tutoring sessions each week or fortnight throughout the year. This is our most flexible sub-programme - lessons are based on each student’s individual needs, and are organised around the availability of the student and their tutor.

How can I find out more?
For more information on our tutoring sub-programmes, please visit our website: http://muhi.org.au/local-programs/swot/programs/

Who can apply?
We accept applications from all students currently studying at a Victorian university (including those who are just starting uni this year!) and recent university graduates. Prior tutoring experience not necessary - we'll provide you with the relevant training. As long as you have an interest in educational inequity and a willingness to learn, we'd love to have you on board!
