Thoughts on ranks so far??

Hey forum!

So I just got marks/ranks back for each task from term 1 and wanted to get a rough estimate of where I lie in terms of ATAR.
My school rank is currently 265, around 25 students get an ATAR above 90 each year (give or take), highest ATAR last year was 99.4.

My results were:
Physics (89%) - 5/48 (1 band 6 in 2018)
Business Studies (98%) - 1/106 (8 band 6's in 2018)
Economics (80%) - 2/26 (1 band 6 in 2018)
Advanced English (80%) - around 10-15/110 (3 band 6's in 2018)
Advanced Maths (66%) - roughly 25th/120 (13 band 6's in 2018)

I know it is a bit early but I just want to know approximately how much better I need to be performing to achieve an ATAR of around 95?

Hiya!

I feel that there is no way you can completely estimate how well you should be doing to achieve a goal ATAR, and I've been told countless times not to think about this at the current moment. I feel that with an entire year left, you should aim to come and maintain first place as a ranking for as many subjects as you can as this would improve your chances of getting your goal ATAR (and you're already doing so well!). I would definitely be aiming for a couple band 6s and courses which I don't band 6, I would hope to band 5 for a 95. Unfortunately, its impossible to know how you will do in the HSC and the band 6 cutoffs and all the other stuff that goes into our HSC marks and our ATAR, so all we can do is work hard, and hope for the best.

Due to the new syllabus this is not as reliable however this website will give you an indication of the raw marks you need to receive to band 6. https://rawmarks.info

Your marks and ranks are both looking great at the moment as its important to realise that its hard to compare marks as often task ones are a class test or assignment which differs to an exam marked out of 100.

Ultimately just keep working as hard as you can - your business and physics are both looking amazing so perhaps focus on your advanced maths as well to bring that up. Try not to burn out too early and just consistently work.
