Study Score 40+ for Legal ??????
« on: October 25, 2011, 08:00:33 pm »

Hey people, I was wondering if I could get a SS of 40 with my current marks. I did pretty well in Legal this year, and it's obviously reflected in my results....

Unit 3 : 91/100         -   A+
Unit 4: 89/100          -   A

We also did a practice exam in which I got 64/70 Marks, which is also an A+

Assuming I manage to score 65/70 in the Exam, is there a chance I will get above 40?

Cohort strength? Rank?

65/70 should get you mid 40s.

3/~35?

I topped the whole cohort in the prac exam by a very decent margin as well. The cohort wasn't that strong in SACs.

Depends on the cohort.

Seriously, if you look at the most extreme examples, you can imagine most students from MHS/MacRob to absolutely ace SACs if they go to a very average school.

So if I get say, 80/100 @ MHS, that could be equivalent to 90/100 at a different school (obviously depends)

I mean if lets just say everyone in a cohort is getting 90+/100, and the average exam score is like 40/70, then the SACs obviously were not that difficult. Whereas if everyone is getting around 80/100, and then the average score is 55/70 in the exam, then things are a little different.

If you could use a students from last year as an example, two friends of mine achieved the following

Person A:
Unit 3 - A
Unit 4 - A
Exam - A+
= 38

Person B:
Unit 3 - A+
Unit 4 - A+
Exam: A
= 40

I can't specifically give their percentages, as small things like that do come into account. E.G Whether you got a high A or a low A.

What school? How strong  is your cohort? I think I got a little higher than that [still nowhere near the top in terms of ranking], got an A on the exam and got a 39 last year. With an A+ and a medium-strong cohort you are looking at 40+?

If you have a weak cohort, and you get an a or A+ on the exam, will your study score be affected; because of the weak cohort - even if you got an A+ for both semesters.

what is a weak and strong cohort?

A cohort is the people studying a particular subject at your school. That is for SACs. The in the Exam the cohort are all the people doing a particular subject in the whole state as exams are external.

So in essence, if your classmates F around in Legal Studies and get bad marks, you will also be disadvantaged. The strength of your cohort can be measured by what marks they get.

what is a weak and strong cohort?
a cohort describes the students at a school doing a particular subject
a strong cohort is like a cohort at melbourne high school, for like maths methods;
where the students will perform very well on the exam
