isn't everyone waiting for second offers ? except for the ones who already accepted I mean

I just wanted to find others who as as desperate as I am lol. Some people did not get in but don't mind staying at their current school, or just didn't want to go to Jmss at all.

I know I'm not being pragmatic but I desperately want a second round offer. :(

I'm the same here - JMSS really feels like the best school for me... I know I'll be able to cope if nothing works out, but the thought of a second round offer is so obsessive.

Since you are a self confessed nerd you should know that you need to achieve a 70% average across all subjects to be able to do a 3/4 subject in year 11. If you achieve a 90% average you can do 2 x 3/4 subjects in year 11. The option to do non-science subjects are very limited ( well it is a science school ) and you can forget about non-scored subjects ( just in case you were considering them ). The subject choice in year 10 is quite different from other schools. Maths and English is the same but there is no Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography etc, there are Dynamic Earth, Marine Science, Quartz and Quasers,Cells and Systems and many other non-traditional subjects and there are many different paths that can lead you to different VCE 1/2 and 3/4 subjects in year 11 so you need to understand these paths. For example if you want to do Bio 3/4, there is no Bio 1/2, instead there is a choice of 3 different subject you can take in year 10 that takes you to Bio 3/4 in year 11 or year 12.

Can't think of anything else but if you have any specific questions please ask.

Also, they've taken away the 70% rule this year at jmss,so now the teachers just review your marks and evaluate other things such as work ethic, organisation etc... as well :)

Congratulations to all those that ended up making it to JMSS! Hope the school treats you well like it had for me. Make the most of all the opportunities that are given to you, and in general, have a blast as the 3 years go by very quickly. On the other hand, commiserations to those that missed out; don't be too disheartened as there is always next year. Remember, it is not the end if you didn't make it! I'm sure you're all hard-working and will make the most out of your current schools and whatnot! VCE is about you, and how you choose to tackle it, not the school :D

Hey, I'm trying out for JMSS next year and I was wondering, are Hendersons Courses or JAC any help for the JMSS exam?

Thanks.

Personal opinion having taken JAC for Selctive and Hendersons for JMSSS, i found Henderson was much more useful and helpful than JAC (including the material). Again that is what worked for me.

Hey guys,

Is math methods more convenient to undertake, or is it just my opinion.
I have heard many math method study scores being scaled up as well.
Correct me if I am wrong.

EBBS students, don’t be triggered. I know Specialist is compulsory there that’s why.

And also what courses are you all looking to go into.
I’m going to go for Bachelor of Biomedicine at Either Monash or Melb.

What do you mean more convienient to undertake? What is that in reference to? Math method does scale up (I think around 5 points), so it is a good idea to include methods in your VCE if you're planning to take the STEM route. Specialist scales up even more (~10), but like any other subject, you shouldn't take it just for the scaling.

Ur right,

Spesh is extremely difficult for most people and this can be a deterrent for concentrating on your other subjects that are equally as important, but if you do well on it, you definitely get scaled up by a lot but I am happy about being scaled by 5 or 6. I don’t mind aa. :D

At the end it all depends on the person and their admiration for math.

My top three are biology, chemistry and Methods.

What are all of you guys going to be doing for your top three subjects?
