Could distance be one of the factors they consider while selecting students?
15 people from my school tried out (like ultra smart people) but nobody got in.
Nah it wasn't the distance, it was the fact that there was 15 from the same school ...

Admission Officer : okay let me count how many students from this school, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ( switch hands ) 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 ( looks at foot with lace up shoe on and realising he had no free hand to undo the shoe lace ) stuff this I think I will just exclude all these students ...

That wouldn't make any sense. I live 2 hours away, why would they pick me?
They obviously picked you because they felt sorry for you because anyone who picks EBSS over JMSS has got to have something wrong with them, right?  :o :o :o  Shouldn't you be hanging out at a EBSS forum instead of a JMSS forum anyway?  :o :o :o  ( Just joking LOL  :) :) :) )

As galactic mentioned that about 20 ppl might be rejecting the offer.

that gives me hope.

But,
why do ppl try out in the first place if they might reject the offer after receiving it?

For fun, to see where they stand. You think everyone applying from a school like Melbourne High who gets in will go? Because of that

Yeah thats what i was thinking. People wouldnt dedicate themselves to doing a 3hr exam + a 1hr interview just to deny it and throw away a brilliant opportunity. :'( i just want a second round offer really badly.

All that said and done, there are about 600 people in the waiting list so the chances of second round are very low, plus some criteria needs to be calculated. If your school has capped their spots already u can’t get one. So bascially, atleast 1-2 people from your school have to reject it for you to get their spot. That’s what’s with me, I know that I won’t get one becuase the 10 people who got offered all accepted it. Don’t get your hopes high. It’s good to hope but don’t rely anything on second round becuase the odds are heavily stacked against us. Maybe just try year 11 entry for JMS or something if u really want it bad.

some people who got in have scholarships and if they leave their school they might have to pay it back soo that is why some reject offers..

I might be a bit bias because i do live 2 hours away from JMSS and only 20 mins from EBSS. *However* nevertheless, my point is that selective schools definitely promote a positive and competitive working environment, where students all strive to succeed.

P.S. According to one of my friend that goes to EBSS, EBSS ranks higher than JMSS.
dude 1) i think i’m going to be in your cohort next year for EBS 2) i live 2 hours away from EBS and like 20 minutes away from JMSS so LOVE THAT

The ranking isn't really applicable because 2/3 of the Uni High cohort(ebs parent school) is filled with locals which drag the school down. However what i can definitely say is that the school has MUCH better facilities than JMSS. (cough one basketball court)

At my current school, there are about 57 year nines. Applying the 3% rule, 1.71 people can get in. 3 people applied including me, and one has gotten in.
1.) do you think they can pass the 3% rule a tiny bit and round it to 2 people?
2.) do i have a 0% chance of getting in through a second round offer because the 3% rule has already been done?

1) possibly because my previous school had 310 year 9's with around 40 people applying and 11 people getting in.
2) you still have a chance but I'm not sure if you should get your hopes up.

If you apply for year 11 entry there is no 3% rule so you can always try again.

Too bad EBSS has literally no option for subject choice as you are given a set course straight through VCE whether you like it or not. If you didn't know, Uni High used to be selective back then and it's over 50 years old and is located right next to unimelb as well as a bunch of research institutes (WEHI) and hospitals, hence why their facilities are so good whereas JMSS opened 7 years ago and can't expand due to it being literally within Monash's campus.
