Just got my JMSS exam report (I kept forgetting to request JMSS for it). Most of my science exams were bad... I'm dead...

how were they? sure it wasn't that bad. you got into interviews.

hey, at least you got a sup. and this is good for other people taking the exam - you can get low averages and still get into interviews.

I think this honesty doemeds on getting good results and your school. Like you might need high averages and sups if you go to let's say Balwyn High then compare to my school.

It would really help if someone could write a Science essay about any topic that would be around high average / superior or a criteria for what to study for the science reasoning.

If I get in JMSS, it will be way closer from my home than if I get in to MHS.

TBH you have a higher chance of getting into JMSS then Mhs. You seem very capable at maths so for science it's mostly general knowledge and if you need help with essays post them here.

i posted this in our 2018 jm thread, but i thought I'd post it here as well for you guys trying out next year:

I'd just like to say, I think you guys are putting way too much into this. The tests (besides maths) aren't something you can prepare for - there aren't questions like 'how many chromosomes in a human gamete cell' or something. (abt the science reasoning) they're not testing your knowledge, they're testing your ability and potential. so personally my advice would be, brush up on maths, keep up with science in the news and build a good general knowledge and don't waste time learning the year 10 science curriculum (like I did lmao!).
but this is just my opinion - anyone else who took the exam, feel free to comment what you think!

Oh yes, I do apologise for giving you a slight wrong info about the science reasoning. I think you do need a bit of prior knowledge (know the basics well), but the test has mostly got to do with logic and commonsense (are they the same thing? lol) If I'm wrong about this and/or the other tests, please correct me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!! :D

I swear the numerical reasoning is 40 questions in 30 mins.

Erm, I personally did not go through a lot science reasoning tests prior to the test. I recommend that you focus on other components of the test, but if you really want, you could try using this:

+ Shadestache, I've already learnt everything you've mentioned previously.  (Math) Should I study more? I've heard both Numerical Reasoning and Mathematics are easy. But Science is going to be hard for me. Only if it was like Verbal Reasoning, I'd be ok because I'm learning new sophisticated words each day that would add up to a great vocabulary. I don't know whether I should do MHS test, JMSS test or both test.  I have a great passion for Biology but not as good at Chemistry and physics but because of Hannibal's guides, I guess I could learn it all seeing I am preparing a long time early.

Yay, thanks for the swift reply, wasn't expecting a reply while I saw typing something else xD. I will definitely look into that but I actually DO HORRIBLE in Science ICAS competitions, literally all Participation except for one in Year 3..... how embarrassing.

Dude, go for both. If you don't like the school that you're currently attending, then yeah. If you get into one of them, you can go there. If you get into both, you can reject one. It's fine to have a passion for biology and not the other two. You're not forced to love anything and everything related to science.

My old school doesn't do ICAS stuff, so I have no idea what it's like. You don't need to have a lot of prior knowledge in order to do well in the science reasoning, science prac report and science communication. You seriously don't. This is coming from a kid that tryharded for the test. Almost everything I studied wasn't even on the test (feelsbad). Logic is pretty much your companion for those science tests.
