Distinctive images offer a variety of perspectives on the world.
Compare how this is achieved in your prescribed text and ONE other related text of your own choosing.

Distinctively visual is seen when visual composers use vivid images to communicate their ideas so that responders grasp a strong understanding of distinctive images offering a variety of perspectives on the world. The non-linear film “Run Lola Run” directed by Tom Tykwer (1998) is a three part narrative about protagonist Lol and her journey to save her boyfriend Mani. Tykwer utilises a range of film techniques such as aerial shots and animation to positions his audiences through the emphasis on three main issues; chance, choice and fate and Existentialism. Similarly, the dramatic artwork “Tree of Hope” by Frida Kahlo (1948) shows the duality of her emotions after her tragic life threatening accident, which had lead her with two different end result. This is seen through the wide range of artistic techniques such as the dark vibrant colours contrasting with the dull colours. Both texts exemplify how distinctive images offer a variety of perspectives on the world.

“Run Lola Run” shows how distinctive images offer a variety of perspectives on the world, this is evident through the immense emphasis of chance. Chance plays a crucial part in Lola’s journey or her effort to save her boyfriend Mani’s life. In order to emphasise the issue Lola’s story is told not once, but three times and so Lola receives three chances to find the 100,000  with differing outcomes, highlighting the purpose of the creation of distinctive images. Through the use of flash forwards there are different future for each character she encounters and by using black and white, Tykwer makes these scenes more memorable for the responder. As there is not a large amount of dialogue the responder relies on the use of images to interpret the main ideas of the film. The beginning of the film with its striking use of the aerial shot of the guard kicking the football and the camera heading randomly in Lola’s direction emphasises the concept of chance and that life is metaphorically a game. Similarly through Frida Kahlo’s “Tree of Hope”, emphasis the idea of chance through her tragic accident. She survived a near fatal bus crash and the result was living in constant pain and endured numerous operation. Dramatically the artwork shows the two perspectives of her life, one of the agonies that she endured and the other portrays her determination to make the most of her life. The distinctive images gives the responder two representation of her experiences from the fatal accident, the operation to the aftermath. This striking painting is divided into two halves with a gloomy sky which is separated into light and dark by the sun and the moon. The landscape is bare and hostile and it has two splits in it, a metaphor for the wounds on her back and her life, in front of both depictions of Kahlo is a dark abyss furthering the idea of death and pain an individual may go through in their lives. In the self portrait the first image is distinctive, with her back exposed showing two large cuts with blood dripping violently. This is seen through the intense shade of red showing the the incision of the operation, contrasting with the Kahlo’s pale and weak body. Furthermore, distinctive images have therefore, offered a variety of perspectives on the world through the idea of chance in an individual's life.

“Run Lola Run” explores the idea of an individual being free and responsible in determining their own development in life through personal experience. Tykwer uses the immense importance of existentialism to act as a medium to allow one to question their perceptions of life. The rhetorical question “who are we? Where do we come from?” allude to the idea of facing life’s direct questions as well as embracing the human concussion of loneliness, affecting one’s life experiences as well as allowing them to determine their own fate. The close up shot of Lola as she looks into the store contemplating whether to help or not focuses on her facial expression. Her reflection represents her past and future, highlighting the significance of her role as her decisions based on experience determines the outcome of the situation. The high angle shot of Lola as she runs out of her house to save Mani, emphasises her role in the situation where she is not only responsible for her own life, but well as the life of another. Alluding to how through past experiences, Tykwer uses existentialism to act as a medium to question one’s perception life, resulting in a broadened understanding based on past experiences. Hence, , distinctive images have therefore, offered a variety of perspectives on the world through the idea of existentialism in an individual's life.

Tykwer also addresses how distinctive images offer variety of perspectives on the world through the idea of choice and fate,  and how the choices which individuals makes affect fate, acts and circumstances with whom we encounter in life. This is evident through the low angle shot of the policeman, that Lola always runs into, symbolising fate. This highlights how she is constantly restrained by the forces if fate which inevitably change the outcome of situations, giving a perspective on the world. The cuts in the third run along with the split screen showing lola missing her father represented by the low angle of the clock displays her futility she has due to her past actions. The use of red, represents hope and healing, this is ironic as in the second run the ambulance runs over Manni due to Lola due to Lola previously slowing down, reinforcing the idea that choices affect the circumstances with whom we encounter in life as all past actions regardless of how minute accumulates to create the current contract of our lives. Conversely “Tree of Hope” also explored how the decisions of an individual can have a significant impact on how distinctive images offer a variety of perspectives on the world. The artist Frida Kahlo was given the choice to either live or die, ultimately choosing life over death from the life threatening accident, which had lead her living with a lifelong disability. The artwork symbolises the two choice, as Kahlo divides the artwork into; a dry hell like environment with her body wounded, blood dripping and the bed wheel near the edge and a night sky, peaceful environment with Kahlo herself, dressed in a vibrant pink traditional Mexican outfit, holding a pink medical corset symbolising the choice of giving up, but living on, she had the choice between cowardice or bravery after the operation took place. If it  wasn't for continuing on her journey, she would never had found her way of communicate her emotions through her significant artwork. Moreover, distinctive images have therefore, offered a variety of perspectives on the world through the idea of choice and fate in an individual's life.

As such, both text exemplify how distinctive images have a profound effect on the audience how distinctive images offer a variety  of perspectives on the world, by addressing themes such as; fate and choice, chance and existentialism. Further highlighting the diversity of topics discussion through distinctive visual.

Hi naaram! A couple of quick points:

- Make sure you are linking strongly to the question in your Thesis. You've referenced the question but your concepts don't really relate to it, from what I can see. Make sure you aren't just using the words for the sake of it, you actually have to adapt your argument to match.
- Ditto in your paragraphs, I feel you are just using the phrase "perspectives on the world" then carrying on with a prepared argument. It's always better to come up with new concepts on the spot than just ignore the concept entirely, always try to bend to the question :)
- Watch for retell - Whenever you write a sentence, think to yourself, "Am I telling them what happened in a situation or to a character?" If you are, that sentence isn't going to do anything for you.
