Trust the sample exam! The same people who will be writing your exam have written the sample exam, so it is highly probable that the real exam will look similar to it. There is also a trend where the first exam of a new study design will not be that hard, but don't rely on this too much ;D (*coughlastyear'smethodsexamcough*).

But do you really think they would make it that similar to the trail exam? Because isn't that just such a giveaway?

One example that I have in mind is VCAA 2011 Exam 1 where the question was "Compare and contrast normal age-related memory decline with Alzheimer's disease. In your answer, refer to key brain structures and processes involve in memory." Although, this question was 15 marks....

I attempted that Alzheimer's one... was so so broad- I found that so difficult- and for 15 marks theres not thaattt much you can say!

but hey look on the bright side- psych gets scaled up this year!!!

WHAT?! How much is it scaled up by?! I had no idea about that? Is it confirmed?

Now I'm not saying it'll be EXACTLY the same, I'm just saying that the complexity of the questions will be relatively easy. The question on the sample may also give you a hint, for example the sample asked about state-dependent cues so they probably won;t ask about it on the actual exam, but they may ask about context dependent cues.

AND yes, it has been confirmed a  while ago when my teacher went to a conference. It definitely is getting scaled up this year [by 1]- something to look forward to!

Yeah I see what ur saying- did u find the sample exam easy overall? What were your thoughts?

I had no idea! Is this the first year psych's being marked up?
I feel like that means it's getting harder if its gonna be marked up (even though its only by 1)

tbh I haven't finished the entire sample exam- however MC seems relatively easy so far and the short answer questions are really easy. However when it came to the research methods part I got stuck- particularly the question that required plotting on a graph- I didin't even know how to label the axis!

NO- just because a subject is getting scaled up it doesn't mean its gonna be hard! Think of it this way, VCAA are scaling it up because we are the unfortunate bunch that has limited resources and has to deal with new content- that's all! And I'm not sure if it's been scaled up before- but it probably has when a new study design was introduced!

I wouldn't stress much- and even if you do end up getting a 25 in psychology- SO WHAT!!?? You are probably not gonna get that if you stop stressing, but if you keep stressing you will end up with a crappy score because you're mind will go blank on exam day!

Listen- there is no need to stress, there are a lot of students in your position right now, don't be the one that gets effected by stress- let that be somebody else- you can do this!

If you have any questions, please ask away, also how are you going content-wise?

Haha thanks!! I'm not stressed about getting a lower score, just stressed coz its my first 3/4 exam and I don't know what to expect!
I'm going pretty good content wise, just need to perfect a few more things- I'm more worried about the 10 marker because there's nothing to base it on (besides the sample exam)

Wait, how do you know this before people have even done the exam? Isn't scaling figured out after we do our exams?
I'd be pretty happy if psych scaled up though :)

My teacher went to a conference and they informed her that it will be scaled up by 1- due to the new study design. You can check when you're scores come in if you still think it's too good to be true!

hello Dana,

Well lets take a look, Fraser is restricting his caffeine intake to two cups the following week, so he has already started to implement change [so this is part of action because Fraser is already making changes to his lifestyle]. In regards to the next goal, which is not to use electronics devices before going to bed, he acknowledges that he needs to change this behavior however difficult he may find it so he is in the preparation stage [he has prepared to make this change within the next 30 days]

Do you understand, or can I explain a bit more

So from the question, you can see than Fraser has made the behaviour change of reducing his caffeine intake, therefore, he is in the action stage for his coffee reduction behaviour. This reduces your options to A and C. Then for the mobile phone stage, I went and looked at the previous question where it says that he believes he can do it within the next two weeks. To me, that indicated the preparation stage, since it fits in the time frame of 30 days.

I get how you might think it's C, since it seems like Fraser hasn't made any change, but I feel like he has made some change, but that he finds it difficult.

There's probably someone here who can explain it better, but let me know if you have questions!

You explained the preparation stage way better then me. I actually didn't read the previous question. Even I was a bit unsure how to explain it t Dana, [although I knew it was option A]. Good on ya!
