University Formal/Social/Ball/??

I've been wondering lately if there's a university equivalent of a high school formal/social/ball at the end of year? If there is, how is it structured and does the university organise it or the students? Do the professors and lecturers actually turn up? If university formals don't exist, would it be strange to organise one?
Which will hold greater rule over you? Your fear or your curiosity?

At UNSW societies do this all the time.

Balls and stuff are typically student-run events. Whilst it's possible that a lecturer will "come" to one, depending on the situation, they (and also other uni staff members) usually aren't the ones that get all of this going.

Like Rui said, I think the student societies are the main organisers of uni balls and such. Would depend on your faculty and their relationship with the society as to whether any staff went to the ball - I know last year a number of the physio staff came to the ball, but that wouldn't happen in some other faculties.

The structure of each ball varies but usually its arrive, mingle and get drinks, sit down and have your meal, there might be awards presented or speeches or something, then people drink more and dance haha
