Hi there,
Are complementary angles and negative angles required in Exam 1? I find it very difficult to memorise them.

Hey NCLM, exact values for these are all required for tech free. You could try drawing this at the beginning of the exam to make things easier:

Memorising the exact values is definetly nessecary. Don't fret about it. It's actually pretty easy to learn.
What I did to memorise was use a table like the one attached and memorise them by reading it aloud and graphing.

Btw, there are patterns that come up like: cos 30 = (sqrt3)/2 = sin 60

Yeah, same. I find that making a pattern and just finding a weird way to remember exact values is critical, because you’ll need to know them for the exam (exam 1 especially).

In addition to the two special triangles mentioned above, another well known trick for memorising the table of values is explained in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KaZWu5OKag (thanks to the original creator).

(Aside: it's ironic that the creator moans about memorising stuff, but this method for remembering the table of exact values is a paradigmatic case of a rote memorisation trick, since it's just a mathematical coincidence that it works).

Might be late, but the easiest way to remember them is this (you don't need to write it out, I'm only doing it for explanation):

30-45-60 for cos is 3, 2, 1
30-45-60 for sin is 1, 2, 3

Square root the top and divide everything by 2.

It would be better if you showed some progress or some attempt here.

Rephrasing the question: for some random variable \(X \sim N(0, 1)\) you want to find \(x\) such that \(P(X < x) = 0.875\).

Hi,
When you find the inverse of a function you swap the \(x\) and \(y\) values of the function, ie. you want to make \(x=f\left(y\right)\).
For this problem
Rearrange \(x\) and \(y\) values of the function
1. \(x=3y-2\), now try and rearrange this by making \(y\) the subject
2. You should get \(y=\frac{x+2}{3}\) \(\therefore f^{-1}\left(x\right)=\frac{x+2}{3}\)
for functions, could someone explain placing restriction on inverse function on x values. thank you
I am not too sure what you mean by this, do you mind posting a particular example?
Please also remember that the condition for a function to be invertible or to have an inverse function is that it needs to be one to one. Meaning that different \(x\) values map to different \(y\) values, to test if a function is one to one try using the horizontal line test.

For example, \(f\left(x\right)=x^2\) does not have an inverse function as it does not pass the horizontal line test, but \(f:[0,\infty )\to \mathbb{R},\:f\left(x\right)=x^2\) does have an inverse function, so does \(f:(-\infty ,0]\to \:\mathbb{R},\:f\left(x\right)=x^2\)

They don't it says you can have full functionality on the coversheet

Ik this seems like a dumb question to ask, but for the actual test, are we allowed to annotate on the test paper (like for the MCQ). Like can we  make little annotations or underline words?

And just one more question , how does VCAA mark things like simplifying our answers and no. of decimal places? Like do we get penalized every time or just once?

Yep! Feel free to annotate it however you want. The only thing getting marked from this section is your answer sheet.

Unfortunately you'll lose the answer mark every single time you forget to round to the right decimal places. They're very stringent about you putting the answer in the right form (if asked), and also whether you round your answer to the correct decimal place. Seems unfair, but even for a one marker if you get the correct answer but fail to round as it asks, you'll lose the whole mark. Make sure to be careful!

Hi! I'm new to this platform so if my post violates any platform rules pls let me know!

I was just hoping that if anyone has past commercial exams (Heffernan, Neap, MAV, Kilbaha, insight, tssm), including solutions, for methods and specialist maths and would be happy to share them with me? I know most school provide these resources to student, but my school is a (not so great) far north public school and teachers don't provide any of these extra resources.

Would be super super grateful for any of those commercial methods and spesh exams. thank you so much!
