these three questions are confusing me :S

A 120-page book has p lines to a page. If the number of lines were reduced by three on each page the number of pages would need to be increased by 20 to give the same amount of writing space. How many lines were there on the page orignally?

&

A shopkeeper buys a crate of eggs at $1.50 per dozen. He buys another crate, containing 3 dozen more then the first crate, at $2.00 per dozen. he sells them all for $2.50 a dozen and maes $15.00 profit. How many dozens were there in each of the crates?

&

A boy is 24 years younger than his father. In 2 years time the sum of their ages will be 40. Find the present ages of the father and the son.

thnx heaps

A:
assuming it is double sided pages:

a simple linear equation

B:
let a be the number of dozens of eggs in the first crate

therefore a+3 is the number of dozens of eggs in the second crate

another simple linear equation

C:
let the boy's age be x

boy's father's age is x+24

in two years:

(boy's age + 2) + (father's age + 2) = 40

and yet another simple linear equation

p.s. are you sure this is methods??

yer these are on the methods book and yes i know they're easy but they were placed in a different section of the book which wasn't concerned with thiese type of equations but rathar the linear part of methods and that conerened me with the way i should work these out; if that made sense

but thanx anyway chaos!

um... these are linear equations, it'd make sense for them to be in that section as application of linear equation solving (if i understand correctly from your grammar [lack of]), in fact i doubt any methods book to have a "general equation solving" section.

and btw my name is Mao ;D it's in my sig and under my pic...

LOL no worries man
