I can't download attachments? Checked a few threads that I could remember being able to get them before and got '404 - Attachment Not Found'
Link 1
Link 2

Probably also worth noting that these are from before the website update (I think, I was asleep when it happened  ::))

Edit:
Been having a more thorough look through, and here's some more things:
Some major formatting on the 'Look and Layout' page
Aside from the checkbox issue, I'm not sure if the 'Change Profile' button is meant to be aligned to the right or not, but it looks a little odd imo.

Formatting: Scroll bar on the member list for no reason?
Not sure about this one, but it's consistent across multiple resolutions and doesn't actually seem to do anything. Not that anyone would go the the member list on an average day (Right??), but... y'know.

Maybe a little nit picky, but I think the header is a little off still. I like it, but it's a bit too thick and I think being able to hide it would probably be a nice addition. Edit: For example, the youtube one is around half the size of AN's.

And, as much as I love the smileys and other icons - they don't really match the new look either. Most jarringly is probably the respect voters one where none of the colours really match the blue-white thing you've got going (and it's really low res). Not sure how fixable that is since (I think) they're powered by the simplemachines engine but it'd be super cool anyway

Probably more complaints feedback coming later, but I gotta fly, yo  8)

So uh, while you're taking demands, is there any chance we could see more than the first 5 alphabetically ordered upvoters on a particular post?

This is a design issue more than anything.. seems that the height between some posts is a bit short. If you look to the left of the posts the two posts included in the screenshot are REAALLY close to each other.
image

Probably not of the highest priority but definitely something to look at in due course. Other than that, I quite like it!

EDIT: I got an error as well when I first tried to post this: Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required '/home/atarnotes/global/scripts/conf.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/insm/public_html/forum/Sources/Post.php on line 1930

old posts were coloured alternately, i think that would maybe help (even if they were just slightly off from the background color, to retain the 'bright' feel)

Overall, when I get used to it, I think I'll like it for sure :)  My favourite thing so far: I click something else/the browser back button by mistake or there's a refresh AND THE CONTENT IN MY POST REMAINS WHEN I GO BACK TO IT! :)) :)) :))

Disclaimers: a. I know less than nothing about web design.  b. Either ignore or put off my comments, very nitpicky.

Spoiler
> Attached is a pre-site-change screenshot which shows the 'bolded' stuff Zealous mentioned.
PLOT TWIST! not attached - An Error Has Occurred!
The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.

Basically if a board/subforum contained an unread post, the name of the board (e.g. English Studies) used to be bolded so it was easy to see.  Not that it always worked correctly.

> We're missing the archived subforum (public recycle bin, previous years' exam and results discussion, other junk)

> Spacing between topics on a board is uneven (e.g. see English Work Submission and Marking).  There's a nice-sized gap above the topic name, but a bigger (too big) gap below the topic name.  I'd trim a couple of mm off the bottom of each topic.  I think the issue is actually that the 'last post' column sometimes stretches over three lines because the date's a bit long, maybe just making that column a little wider as it used to be could solve this.

> in a quote, bolded text doesn't show up very strongly anymore - not something most will care about, but when answers questions/marks essays bolded within a quote, it no longer stands out much. cf. Re: Language Analysis Feedback please- SAC soon

> until you actually click on a note (quite a mess there), I LOVE the Notes section!

> because everything else has grown, little buttons at the top (e.g. 'reply', 'new topic', 'print') have proportionally shrunk - and I think it's important to have bigger 'reply'/'new topic' buttons at least

> the symbols in the far left column of a board (which I've always thought should never exist anyway) have grown so much that they look fuzzy and out-of-focus, especially compared to the crisp column of symbols to the right of it (which I've always thought shouldn't exist either).

> custom titles overdone a little (huge blue box with huge capitalised text)

> in some situations there's no gap between the black bar at the bottom and the last thing on the page - e.g. see the bottom of a random profile, there's no gap between the 'add comment' and black.  I've found some other examples too.

Yeah, you have an 'a' name and I have a 'b' name, if we can't get away with the sneaky unseen downvote why should everyone else be able to?!?

+1 for silverpixeli's suggestion, had planned to say so too :) Pretty much, how the PMs look seems perfect to me, they alternate in colour and have a small white gap between each.

Actually, on notes, The whole HSC part seems to not work at all...

The notes aren't there in the first place, and when I try to organise by subject, it gives me a list of VCE subjects, not HSC subjects.

Awesome, thanks heaps. That checkbox thing is messed up. Awesome pick ups!

So uh, while you're taking demands, is there any chance we could see more than the first 5 alphabetically ordered upvoters on a particular post?
Hahaha, I'll put it on the list. (This one will be a little bit far down the list though ;) )

old posts were coloured alternately, i think that would maybe help (even if they were just slightly off from the background color, to retain the 'bright' feel)
Great pick-up. A note on how we'll do changes: We'll do bugs first, like the Notes screw-up, and then later on we'll make aesthetic changes, so the aesthetic changes won't be as immediate. Don't think we're ignoring them! I have two separate documents, one for bugs, one for general changes, and they've each got their respective priority, so you'll see bug fixes today and over the coming days, and later on, aesthetic changes.

Overall, when I get used to it, I think I'll like it for sure :)  My favourite thing so far: I click something else/the browser back button by mistake or there's a refresh AND THE CONTENT IN MY POST REMAINS WHEN I GO BACK TO IT! :)) :)) :))

I'm personally very upset about the dot-points. Completely ruined my OP formatting. Noted!

BLok, take my word that I've read and explored all points of your feedback and noted things hahaha :)

Actually, on notes, The whole HSC part seems to not work at all...

The notes aren't there in the first place, and when I try to organise by subject, it gives me a list of VCE subjects, not HSC subjects.

Cheers for this, will fix ASAP. Big bug on Notes.

Can anyone else replicate the attachment error mentioned by bangali_lok? I attached a photo and everything seemed to work fine.

Other than the minor things (header bar, spacing) the colours are very complementary and make it hard to visually distinguish differences. I don't think light blue on pale grey is a good pairing, maybe tweak the shades.

That random space under the icons for Home etc would be a good place for the unread replies links- just saying :)
But the site's growing on me!

The home page is not very mobile friendly, at least on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4). Most of the screen is taken up by an ad that isn't useful as it flows way off the page, and there's really nothing useful above the fold.

When you say visually distinguish differences, what differences are you referring to?

It just occurred to me that having icons for those two things might be cool, before 'logout' or something? Very prominent.

Yeah that ads a bug -- we're working on making it mobile friendly right now, after which I think the issues should be fixed. We're also going to make the header smaller and see what people think about it after it's not so domineering.  Thanks heaps for your input Daniel!

I've just pushed out the new design to the ATAR Calculator site as well (http://vce.atarcalc.com/), let me know if you see any issues with it over there. There's still a few rough edges and the design isn't 100% perfect but it does work.

One more bug: The layout of the "Look and Layout" section of the forum profile is... not ideal.

This CSS rule is messing it up:
Code: [Select]
.windowbg2_profile input, .windowbg2_profile textarea {
  width: 70%;
}
It might just need to be modified to exclude checkboxes (currently it's making the checkbox 70% of the field width, which is not expected :P )

Also the CSS and JavaScript are not combined or minified which means the initial page load takes longer than it could if it were more optimised.
