Title: rem and nrem sleep
Post by: lleeea on October 01, 2018, 06:24:41 pm
for rem and nrem (and all stages), do we need to know about muscle tone, eye movements, heart rate, arousal threshold and duration for each of the stages? or is it enough to know that rem increases as night progresses, dreaming occurs during it, accounts for 20 to 25% of sleep, and that nrem decreases as night progresses, etc

You should know the general trend for muscle tone, eye movements, heart rate and arousal thresholds. The general trend is that all of them decrease as you get deeper and deeper (not that hard to remember). Most of the questions would be based on the EOG, ECG and EMG questions. I wouldn't worry too much about duration since it varies so much between individuals (and even between different nights of sleep). Just be aware of the general trends in sleep patterns throughout the night and you'll be fine

Hope that helped :)
