Hey all!!!
This is totally irrelevant but the only thing getting me through this stressful period of HSC (besides procrastinating on ATARnotes ;)) is having something to look forward to once I finish my last exam. Just wondering what everyone is planning and looking forward to most (i.e. binge watching a tv show, going to the beach... etc)?
For me its binge reading all the books that I've been wanting to read this year. Speaking of, does anyone have any suggestions of a good series to get into that I can add to my book bucket list?

1. Next day after last exam - heading out to the beach with friends
2. Binge watching house of cards, suits and once upon a time (because people have been harassing me to watch these hahaha)
3. Learning the acoustic guitar (so that i can say i know how to play 4 instruments lol)
4. Just do anything to relax before starting uni tbh
Simple goals mainly for pleasure and whatever else happens will be spontaneous

Mike totally does not die at the end...
Sounds awesome man!, My friends and I are going to a private beach aswell, we are taking like 4 cars up there with all our notes and a wheel burrow. Bit of oil and some marshmallows... you get the drift

Red P's; I finished the HSC whilst still being 17 years old :P
Gym was one of the best decisions ever. Lost 8kg over the holiday period actually.
Well, here's the deal. By the end of the HSC quitting the piano became my biggest regret in life altogether. So I was desperate to pick the piano back up.
I'm sorta serious; I'm serious enough to try hard in piano. I'm doing AMEB 7th grade

I quit piano when i started high school actually and then picked it back up just before senior years began, best decision!

My post-HSC is going to involve a lot of travelling, a lot of working, a lot of beach time, a lot of leisurely lunches and probably multiple viewing parties celebrating every possible milestone of The Bachelorette Australia.
And a whole lot of reading.... my stack of books next to my bed has been gradually growing.

That's definitely the life! wow, what a good range of books!
I've actually read After you (because my SAC class did me before you as our case study so i pretended like it was for educational purposes that i read the novels hahaha) 100% recommend it. Nothing like the first book but it's a really good read!
I've got the Game of thrones series, Miss peregrines series and a whole bunch of John Green novels on my bucket list. Clearly i am planning my months off well...

Hey there!
I have lots of things I want to do after HSC - can't wait!!!
I'm planning on learning how to play the guitar (so I can say I know how to play an instrument)
I'm going on a road trip with friends (still haven't decided where)
I'm going to learn how to cook and bake
And finally, I will go on a cruise for about 3 days!
SUPER excited!
I'm also a book lover (fantasy preferably) and will scout for them after HSC
Btw, I recommend reading the Pure Trilogy by Julianna Baggott, the Graceling Realm series by Kristin Cashore and Maximum Ride series by James Patterson (one of my favourites =D) - can't remember anymore off the top of my head

I absolutely love this thread guys, I'm loving seeing what you will all be up to post HSC!! Please hang around the site after you're done and stay in touch, show us what you've been up to and what you achieve. I'm realising as you guys post about what you are doing post HSC that I'm actually so keen to see you all succeed; who knew the teacher/student relationship thing could apply to tutoring online ;D
Anyway, my post-HSC rewards:
- I left from my Physics exam and bought a new Xbox One and a whole bunch of games, went on a gaming binge for a day or two ;)
- Joined a gym after my scholarship interviews were over, lost the 8-10kg I put on in Year 11-12
- Planned a big massive date with my girlfriend; expensive restaurant in the city, all the bells and whistles. Because every time we saw each other in October was study related, which was a bummer :P
I always give myself something cool after a big work period. I bought myself a new iPhone 7 after the massive lecture series just gone, for example ;D

i don't think it's totally irrelevant, just knowing that there are good things coming is actually helping me keep some cool during study! i'm really just keen to get to the beach, since i'll probably be going inland or somewhere busy for uni

WHAT THE HOW MANY UNITS DO U DO O.O
-
Now that you mention it that IS a first. I've seen someone do 15 units for the HSC already but this is the first time I really took notice of the fact someone else did 16
-
WHAT THE HOW MANY UNITS DO U DO O.O
ohh haha, I know that only 10 units are counted for the HSC and at the end of this anywhere between 3-5 of my studied courses wont be acknowledged. However, I have always had a mentality that education is about learning and so I choose courses that I knew i would enjoy (i didn't really care much about scaling or rankings; i just did it for the enjoyment). I endured a lot of pep talks and lectures from other peers and teachers about how it was too much but I'm not one to quit and frankly with organisation and great support it honestly wasn't too bad.

Good on you! I definitely wouldn't have been able to handle it and I don't even think my school would have let me. How did you fit it all into your timetable?

Well i actually did music through distance education (because it didn't run in my school) so due to that it meant that i had a couple free periods through the week which were meant to be my music periods but i actually used them as catch ups and did music work at home (which was a lot more convenient in the end anyway)
Also a lot of my courses are extensions so they ran off the timetable. I had period 0 classes 3 times a week which were from 7:50-8:30 and then I had after school classes 4 times a week. Since I am the only student in my school doing ext 2 math there was flexibility. This resulted in a lot of skype lessons which was great as i could learn from the comfort of home (though they usually were at 8:30 -10 at night so not sure much learning happened hahahaha)

Thanks! Not going to lie, thinking of all the exams I have to prepare for, I do find myself wondering if it was worth it (though I have concluded yes)

Thank you so much! Coming from someone who got a 99.80 ATAR that truly is the greatest complement :) :)
Fingers crossed! lol I always used to tell myself to take it one day at a time and I guess that is what I will continue to tell myself to get me through the HSC

Hey that's no worries at all! ;D I admire your drive and work ethic to be able to study for so much, so independently. I could never do it. Do let us know how you go with everything! :)
-
Do what you want. If you want to do all 16 then it's going to pay off. You could probably get 99.8 anyhow for all we know

I actually have a whole list of books, movies, tv shows that I started gathering around prelim last year. In saying that didnt stop me from watching heaps and procrastinating heaps ahah. (I can post it here if you like)
I'm heading up the coast (yes during the schoolies period but I'm way from the schoolies location) for 10 days with no wifi, no tv just a pool, beach a few minute walk and going to have a massive bonfire at one point (going to upload all my notes first)
Then I'm staying with relatives for a month in VIC which I'm excited about
To be honest the only thing getting me through is the fact that theres good movies coming out when i finish, a new album by my favourite band and i have a concert too
other than that im probably just going to sleep

No problem! I really struggled because i couldn't find notes anywhere for so long. I want to help other people succeed in the things I'm not good at so much because i complied my notes so late. :D

Serious envy. That all sound amazing!
Yeah definitely list them! I would love to expand my bucket lists, 4 months is a lot of time that I plan to kill completely unproductively hahaha

That's a really nice thought! I'm thinking of posting my notes as well especially for Society and Culture because there aren't any available but I would have to seriously edit and reorganize them first tbh

Woah gees, been ages since I've seen that many games placed in a list.
-
That's a really nice thought! I'm thinking of posting my notes as well especially for Society and Culture because there aren't any available but I would have to seriously edit and reorganize them first tbh
You'd be an absolute legend for doing so! ;D

I know same here!
Also anything to help!

I think you will deserve a huge rest blissfulmelodi....after doing all those subjects!!! ;D
Well done....I definitely admire you!!! :D I couldn't have coped with that at all! Great work!! ;)
Aww thank you! But don't underestimate your own ability, you might even surprise yourself with how resilient you can be. I know i definitely did. If you had told me I would be 16 units today I'd say your nuts but low and behold that's what has happened.
But yes, the plan is to seriously just do NOTHING for a little while hahahaha

That is an impressive list. The only thing i recognised was Pretty Little Liars haha which I 100% recommend (I am totally obsessed!) and piano is always fun. Love reading that other wants to learn or relearn instruments. I feel like the arts are always undervalued

I rewarded myself by being worried about the ATAR announcement :D
-
Guys. Guys. Guys.
You've missed the main post-high school reward.
8 HOURS OF SLEEP. EVERY. FRIGGIN. NIGHT.**

Yeah when uni starts wtf is sleep

Honestly Uni sounds like the biggest bludge where everyone just fucks around all day, all night untill 2 weeks before the exam and they choose to study a week before it. Is this correct?
-
I rewarded myself by being worried about the ATAR announcement :D
Haha ain't that the truth 😂 but I think we are all well trained in procrastination so I'm sure there will be a away to forget it for a couple of hours
-

Well I've actually heard that uni is basically like HSC 2 times a year so I don't think its quite what your saying lol
-

That's if you want to pass.
If you want to HD on the other hand.
-
That's if you want to pass.
If you want to HD on the other hand.
Totally agreed. I've been at uni for 4 years now (1 degree done, currently doing a postgrad).
This doesn't take into account other considerations such as hurdle requirements (could be a minimum pass mark for specific components of a subject, could be an attendance requirement). Also it depends on the discipline as to how assessment and marks work. Don't expect automatic 70+'s though at uni - you have to put in the work to get anywhere in the upper range. If you're happy with "just passing", that's great :)
I guess a big no no at uni is failing a subject. That hurts more than "pass" marks, because it follows you around on your academic transcript.
-

Yeah but my cousin (a successful IT project manager) said that all you need to do is pass, no one really cares about anything above 50%
-

In the IT industry, experience is the highest priority when you go for a job. Definitely true in that regard. For other disciplines, this can be a totally incorrect statement to make. Some disciplines take marks extremely seriously, whilst others take into account if there are any 'fail units'.

Ahhh, hey your in the It industry right? with IT and Mechatronics (involves IT) would they consider GPA or just non fail units?
-

What Aaron said.
If I don't get at least distinction I do not qualify to become an actuary. I just happen to want the HD.
-
Ahhh, hey your in the It industry right? with IT and Mechatronics (involves IT) would they consider GPA or just non fail units?
I'm not in the industry personally, but I know of many IT graduates who have found jobs recently (given my undergrad degree is IT). They prioritise experience (through industry based learning, projects, internships etc) more than anything. Anyone who says a high GPA doesn't help your case is kidding themselves, but it applies to any IT related job.
Experience > grades (as long as you pass everything to an adequate standard, with no fails).
If you plan on going into some other discipline, this may or may not apply. Only speaking for IT.
-
Yeah but my cousin (a successful IT project manager) said that all you need to do is pass, no one really cares about anything above 50%
In addition to above, consider the fact that you are up against someone in a job interview. You are both recent uni graduates and you've both done a similar amount of work experience as part of your degrees. You both perform well in the interview. But you have just passes, and your competition has HD's and is on the Dean's List as a result.
Pretty obvious the outcome there ;D in a competitive industry, you want yourself to look as attractive as possible. Good grades at uni are a good step towards that :)
Speaking personally now, I require a Credit average to keep my scholarship. I require a Distinction average (that's my goal) to get First Class Honours. First Class Honours is a big deal in a lot of disciplines :)
-

Well I have already been accepted to Maquarie, Western and the Gong, so I gym and work till march then join mechatronics at the gong because they are becoming profound in that industry. Their professor left UTS and joined the gong so should be good. Not really doing much, oh I am probably independantly moving to a apartment in a couple of months/weeks in the gong..

That's cool! I love Wollongong. Congratulations on being accepted in three places!

Might be a bit late to add in my plans (seems like the discussion has progressed to post-school life) but the plan is to:
- binge Harry Potter and High School Musical series with my friends (we're planning a 6am start for HP to get it done in a day... but we'll see)
- go up to The Entrance for 2 days, 3 nights
- get a job
- convince my parents that graphic design is not as bad as it seems (hoping to go to UTS for B of Visual Communications)
My biggest motivator has got to be Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. Anything by her, I recommend! I re-read her books before the release of Empire of Storms and kept EoS for post-HSC. Please read her books!!! (Otherwise, I recommend the Cinder series, TMI, TID, etcetc)

Someone needed to get us back on track ;) wait wait, all 8 HP's in one day? Like a 24 hour binge? AWESOME!
Tell your parents I know a couple of graphic designers, both love their courses (they go to a private college whose name eludes me), definitely a great thing to study! ;D

I go to UTS and love it! It's so hands on and really innovative. I don't have another University to compare to, but I think you'll love it as much as I do. I studied Bachloe of Communications :) So, on that note, I've been working in magazines this year and I can't explain the demand for graphic designers themselves, but ALSO, the skill requirement of aesthetic technical proficiency is sooo in demand in other jobs. I never realised the importance graphic design holds in sooo many businesses. It is a GREAT idea to study that! :)
-
I just wanna point out that the combined running total of the Harry Potter movies is like 20 hours and to do it all in one day comfortably, one should probably start at 2am to allow 2hrs worth of toilet breaks, rests, snack gathering, and movie changing time.

I actually have bachelor of communication at UTS as my second preference! What's the course like? What do you learn/do? And what are the assessments like? I am so unsure about what to study at the moment but I do know that I want to do something aligned with creative writing and journalism, do you think it would be an ideal course for me to study?

What an awesome idea for a thread :D
After my extension maths exam I am totally looking forward to the holidays

Nice to see everyone is sticking to the traditional gym membership haha I think I am the only person who hasn't listed going to the gym lol
And OMG I totally agree with you on the room crisis. I am a complete perfectionist and having my room so messy with notes and books everyone is doing my head in!!! Can't wait to chuck them all away
I actually have a couple of friends that want to go into physio. Do you know what Uni you want to go to?

Yes I definitely do!!! I'm going to write up a kind of deconstruction of how the UTS Comms course works. It's confusing from the outside :) I'll link it to you when I do!

i remember when i finished my last exam of high school i walked to the teachers lounge and said goodbye to my favourite teacher and hugged her and said i hope i make u proud then i went home and slept and played video games for about 9 weeks straight (best 9 weeks of my life)
For me its binge reading all the books that I've been wanting to read this year. Speaking of, does anyone have any suggestions of a good series to get into that I can add to my book bucket list?
if you like books written from an almost biblical sort of storytelling format based in ancient times i highly recommend the richest man in babylon. its basically a financial self help book that teaches the lessons through stories that occured in ancient babylon. its a great book to introduce people to the adult world and how to manage their finances etc. and generally build wealth over a career.

That's exactly what my options are! As well as global studies at UTS

That's honestly the cutest thing! I've definitely spent a lot more time hanging with my fave teachers before my exams. I literally just walk into the science staffroom and sit down and chat to all the teachers (I've actually been doing it all year whenever I didn't want to go to a certain class). The head teacher has even joked that I'm just another member of staff because of how frequently I am in there hahaha
I read the word finance and I cringed! Im more into the narrative, forget yourself stories, mostly romance and fantasy so it doesnt exactly sound like my cup of tea but I'll definitely check it out! Thanks for the suggestion!

YESSSS MORE COMMS <3 Let's meet up at Uni and have coffee and stuff :) :) :)
-
That's awesome! I'm currently working on a piece that's around 8th grade.
I quit piano when i started high school actually and then picked it back up just before senior years began, best decision!
That's really good to hear! That's what I did too- I was so surprised that I still knew how to play my pieces from previous grades even though I hadn't played for like 5 years. :)

Do you just do Comms or a double degree? I wanted to do law/comms but don't think I'll get in lol so I'm thinking of doing Comms & International studies. Would that be a good combination or is the work load too much?
-

I'm enrolled in a double bachelor now with international studies, but I'll be withdrawing from that asap (more to come on this in my post lol). Law/comms is a really popular option - but you definitely should consider why you want to do each one. My friends say that 75% of their time is on law, 25% is on comms. And, if you don't do law and you only do comms - your last exam EVER is your HSC exam! There are no comms exams ;)
International Studies is a really great option. If this is the path you take - you only study comms in your first year and international studies starts in the second year. So the work load is definitely balance-able in the first year, and it gradually increases at a maintainable level :)
