This year sadly I'm not content with how I've been going and I haven't been doing well. But, I realised that I'm ok with that, since I've learnt so many things in the process of failing and I've grown as a being because of it.What a great outlook to have! Props to you, zhen :)
Ok I'll start mine off with a short post, cause I really need to go to sleep, but I've noticed that I haven't posted in ages. Today I had a chemistry SAC and I went out of it feeling weird. In one of the NMR graphs, the formatting was dodgy, so I wasn't able to work out the splitting, but luckily the other information was enough. This year sadly I'm not content with how I've been going and I haven't been doing well. But, I realised that I'm ok with that, since I've learnt so many things in the process of failing and I've grown as a being because of it. Ok that's it for today, I'll try to update my journal later and I'll outline what's lead up to this point of the year.
Omg kudos to you! That's great! Reminds me a bit about me, how last year I couldn't even make it to half the 25m pool without choking on water. Fast-forward, just swam today (roughly 2hrs ago) 3.5 km freestyle, so haha there's that! Keep at it!! You'll give yourself abs in the process and it's totally worth it because my breathing has become super relaxed and controlled since I started swimming hahaha Amazing what exercise can do tbh
This is the best thing I've ever seen.
I'm really looking forward to following your VCE journey zhen! Keep up the good work mate.So you're looking forward to reading me repeat the exact same things that I whine about everyday on the train home.
hey zhen, i plan to choose the exact same subjects as you (except jap sl instead of chinese). any tips or certain challenges on the actual subjects and content as a whole so far?Well personally I feel like one of the challenges of taking these subjects is the massive workload. Of course there are going to be some tricky topics in every subject like for chemistry lots of people don't like electrolytic cells. The problem with doing these competitive subjects especially specialist maths I feel is that students really need to know their subjects really well to do well, because most people that do specialist maths are good at maths. Also, note that languages generally has a massive workload. My biggest tip right now is to find your optimal way of studying or organising your time (trying out stuff like timetables, checklists, going to the library). In my opinion, lots of year 12 students struggle because of bad time management and I feel like if you have good study habits really early, you'll be way ahead of most year 12 students, since many year 12 students right now, including me, still waste time procrastinating.
As someone who smashed my methods sacs last year and messed up the majority of spesh sacs this year, hopefully we both will still end up with great scores in spesh. Its a great relief to know I'm not alone.
The exams are still on their way and VCAA can still moderate our scores up!
I know it's been a while, but do you have any reflections on Chinese SL? ie: How did you feel during the oral exam? All I can say about the oral exam is to keep calm. Getting flustered is the worse thing you can do because then it makes it really easy for you to misunderstand the examiner's questions or stuff up your responses. I don't really have much else to say about Chinese other than try your hardest, since Chinese is a subject where you really need to do heaps of work
Other than that, I had a discussion with one of my friends about how high school has gone by so fast and how the bonds I've formed with many of my fellow classmates will probably break as I progress through the rest of my life, which is pretty sad. This was something I really struggled with during year 12, particularly towards the end of it.
I also found out that a group of students from my school are continuing to stalk my atarnotes account, which is pretty creepy.
I'm really relying on my exam to lift up my specialist SACs. Hopefully we both ace those exams so that they can carry our study scores.

Today, I went to English tutoring and that was pretty standard. I also did an ok amount of specialist work and methods work today after tutoring. I also found out that a group of students from my school are continuing to stalk my atarnotes account, which is pretty creepy.
About the ATARNotes account, do they know who you are IRL, or are they trying to find out ;) ?
Ever since they've been stalking my posts and one of them has posted in this very thread.
Who is it???Hint (a quote from earlier in my journal)
So you're looking forward to reading me repeat the exact same things that I whine about everyday on the train home.
ur days are always so much more productive than mine :) But just don't forget to relax, have fun and enjoy ur last moments of high school!! definetly don't overwork urself, ur atar is not worth it. Good luck!
1/9/2017Hey zhen!
Today most of my classes either had very little learning involved or were cancelled, so school was really relaxed. But, after school I did quite a bit of work and finished analysing Stasiland properly. Now I'll try to relate Stasiland to 1984, which I've also finished analysing. I plan on making a quote bank and writing up a couple of comparative paragraphs on key themes tomorrow.
Hey zhen!Sorry for the late reply. I normally reply to posts at night, but I had my formal at night. I think my chemistry teacher was away due to extracurricular activities for the school (not sure what exactly), but I'm not sure why the other teacher was away.
Glad you're doing well in your studies. Just a question though. What's the reason for the cancelled classes?

The big thing that happened today was that I got my UMAT results. They were awful, but I guess I'm ok with that now since the reasons why I wanted to try out medicine were pretty shallow (high job rates and wage) and honestly I don't think I have much of a passion for medicine. I was kind of hoping that I might find that passion if I tried it out, but now that I know that it's impossible to get into undergraduate medicine, I feel like I should give up on this. Right now, I think my main interest is commerce, since I enjoy mathematics to a degree. To the people that do commerce currently, is it maths heavy and do you think that it's enjoyable as a course? Other than that the main thing today was that I had 3 periods of no classes, where I spent time helping people study for the methods SAC tomorrow.
Well it's alright zhen that happens sometimes :) if you're interested in commerce that is fantastic! Having an interest in mathematics is a really important quality to have to study commerce imo, for all the mathematical concepts you might learn, good luck in your future endeavours! I might get into the same course too, and we might meet from there. :)Ye, hopefully I end up liking commerce cause I don't want to have to switch degrees.

Had my methods SAC today which was absolutely awful. But, since most people didn't think they did well, hopefully it'll be like the first SAC when I fluked a decent score, despite feeling really bad coming out of it. Pretty hyped right now since that was my last methods SAC and only a few SACs are left. :)
Have you done your last chem SAC yet?Not yet, I have one last chemistry SAC next term, but my teacher has basically finished the course cause he raced through it at a crazy pace meaning that I barely understood what he was teaching half the time.
9/9/2017Be careful not to overdo it zhen, pushing yourself to burnout. Is a really, really bad thing to do now.
I went for a morning jog and did a decent amount of specialist revision for my upcoming SAC. I was feeling good for most of the day but at around 8:00 pm at night I started feeling really sick. I had a fever, a massive headache and a sore throat so I slept pretty early.
10/9/2017
I woke up feeling really bad, but about 3 hours after waking up, I felt a lot better. Went to English tutoring, which was pretty standard. Afterwards, I did quite a bit of specialist revision. I feel like I've been doing heaps of SAC revision, but I haven't been preping for the exams as much as I should have. So, I'm going to try to start prepping hard for my practice exams which are next week.
Be careful not to overdo it zhen, pushing yourself to burnout. Is a really, really bad thing to do now.I'll be careful of not overdoing it. I've been making sure that I take plenty of breaks and I've also started to run once a week to really reduce stress. It's not like I'm studying 5 hours straight without breaks. I always try to take mini breaks during my study sessions so I feel refreshed and large breaks in between study sessions. If I feel like I'm overdoing it and if I feel like I'm starting to lose motivation, I'll slow down for a day or two. Anyway, thanks for the advice. :)
Trust me on this, I've gone and done, the week before my exams
11/9/2017That isn't too great about your English teacher, all i can say is they can't help putting their biases in their teaching. Which is hard to do, but when you reject other's opinions and treating yours as gospel then it becomes in your case hard to develop better ideas. It sucks that you hate English now because of this teacher (I feel like English skills in general have worsen over generations like reading..). I don't know if your school allows for this, but try going to another English teachers for feedback, I know in my school the English faculty allowed for this and I later on just hip-hopped and skipped around all my teachers getting different viewpoints and feedback.
I was really unhappy with my English and physics lessons today. For physics we spent time proving things that would never need to be proven in the course. I'm really annoyed that we're wasting time doing this when we only have 4 periods left until practice exams and we haven't finished the content yet. For English, it was just my teacher doing what he usually does, which is being biased and not accepting other people's opinions. He also yelled at people who opposed his view rather than engaging in a civilised discussion with them. I can't wait to finally finish English so I won't have to deal with my teacher ever again. He's made a subject that I mildly enjoyed to a subject that I absolutely hate. On the bright side, my specialist lesson was pretty good and I had a late start today. After school I did English and revised the stuff that I hadn't touched for ages in preparation for the English practice exam. I didn't do as much work as I've done over the last couple of days, but hopefully I can ramp it up tomorrow, especially since I'm feeling a lot better right now and my sickness has disappeared.

Anyway, I wish all the best for your upcoming practice exams for English and other subjects.
Yeah much like students during the few days of school te
This is actually super super relateable its not even funny. Despite my UMAT can be something what you'll call "awful", I researched that I could have done Medicine in Queensland but during this time I realised what being a doctor entails and now I definitely don't want to do it. I'm only unhappy about the time I spent "practicing" for it. Like you, I'm planning on doing Commerce at Melbourne or Monash. (will go to Melbourne unless I get a good scholarship at Monash). I feel like a lot of people want to do Medicine without weighing all the negatives. Since we are strong at Maths, I have no doubt we would excel (if we want to!) at Commerce.
Well I have an English tutor to correct my essays, since my teacher is notorious for being terrible. I also share ideas with other students so I can hear many different opinions. So, I think I'm not too disadvantaged with my teacher.
I feel like the really hands on job that medicine entails isn't really my thing given how uncoordinated I am. Also, I feel like the commitments and my general lack of passion towards the job means that I wouldn't find it enjoyable. Hopefully I enjoy commerce since it seems like a field with a decent amount of math, which I hopefully enjoy.
12/9/2017
Today I screwed up my SAC practical component for chemistry, which hopefully doesn't matter too much since I've heard that another class did worse and this is just getting the data. I also went to the library after school and did some chemistry and specialist revision. When I got home, I relaxed and started discussing English to really get some ideas flowing through my mind. I really need to continue studying for my chemistry test tomorrow that I'm definitely not prepared for since I've spent the last 30 minutes procrastinating.
Ouch on the SAC. Remember: SACs = stepping stones to your exam. You'll be allg.
idk how much research you've done re comm - prob a lot cos you sound like waaay more prepared and informed than I ever was - but we have core units and electives. How much math you do as part of your comm degree depends on what you decide to major in, electives and all that jazz - btw dw if you don't know straight away my best friend is doing straight comm, is in her first year and tells me she's thinking of doing a different major almost every other week lmao. But everyone does core units and esp things like marketing, management and commercial law have like no math at all (as I type this, I'm avoiding a 1500 word marketing essay lmao) and tbh across most of the other core units, it's pretty rudimentary math. So be warned that if you do follow comm, straight comm especially, you might not be doing much math in your first semester at least.
Legit google "Bachelor of Commerce" course progression map and unit outlines (EDIT: plus the name of whatever university you're considering obv cos comm might be run slightly differently across different unis) - you should be able to locate everyth online I think if you wanna know more about how comm is run.
Also: might be different across unis idk. This is just my understanding of comm life from a Monash perspective. :)
Hi Zhen! I was just wondering - do u work? If u do, do u find it hard to balance work and study in year 12?I don't personally do any work, but I know people who work a lot (as much as a full time worker) and people who do lots of extracurricular activities. I feel like you definitely can work, but you have to make sure you don't take on too many extracurricular activities or work too many hours of work. Of course there are always people who do heaps of extracurricular activities and still ace their studies and you may be one of them, but I've seen some really intelligent people struggle because of their extreme load of extracurricular activities. Also, you'll really need to manage your time effectively.
Thanks for making me appreciate my teachers more! :P.I think I'll take on this piece of advice. My attendance will still be over 80% even if I literally ditch all my classes in the last 2 weeks of school. I feel like this year has made me appreciate my teachers from previous years and has made me respect amazing teachers so much more. Anyway, thanks for the advice. :)
I definitely agree that you shouldn't be expected to do the majority of your learning outside of class. However, I think that the term four classes can be important as this is generally where the teachers tend to give some helpful hints for the exams and go over the course, helping you realise if you need to focus more on a topic that they are stressing. Also I think that in the final weeks of school many of my classes are just giving practice questions/timed questions, so even if the teachers are inept it doesn't really matter. This might be the same for you?
I suppose that if the classes you go to next term don't prove beneficial you could always stop going (as long as your attendance is good enough).
I think I'll take on this piece of advice. My attendance will still be over 80% even if I literally ditch all my classes in the last 2 weeks of school. I feel like this year has made me appreciate my teachers from previous years and has made me respect amazing teachers so much more. Anyway, thanks for the advice. :)Just want to note to double-check that school sets a minimum attendance at 80%+ to do your exams at your school. As if you fall below it, after classes are over, you may have some trouble finding another school to do your exams.
Just want to note to double-check that school sets a minimum attendance at 80%+ to do your exams at your school. As if you fall below it, after classes are over, you may have some trouble finding another school to do your exams. My school announced that students have to have an over 80% attendance to complete a VCE subject, which I’m a bit skeptical about since I know people under this and I don’t think my school will force students to stay back a year. Anyway, I meet this requirement since for all of my subjects I have an attendance of 97%+ meaning that even if I skip most of my classes next term I’ll still be over 80% in attendance.
But if your sure it is 80%, then by all means skip classes and if your allowed to join other classes. I did this for my free periods for subjects, I was struggling in. One of the better things I did for VCE.
Hey zhen are you going to the atarnotes meetup on friday?Sadly I won’t be able to attend the meetup on Friday. :'(
Hey Zhen, just curious, what company papers do u think are good for chemistry?Personally from experience I generally like NEAP and Lisachem company papers. But I feel like we can’t be too picky about trial exams cause there are so few as it’s a new study design. I’m planning on doing all the new study design trial exams I can get my hands on and then I’ll go through the VCAA ones and maybe a couple of old company trial exams. I guess prioritise VCAA exams since they’ll be a really good indicator for the types of questions in the real exam and trial exams that correspond to the new study design, cause then the questions are 100% relevant rather than having 30% of the questions being irrelevant.
Sadly I won’t be able to attend the meetup on Friday. :'(Why not? I'm sure everyone was keen to meet you and see if you're as angsty as you are in your journal
Why not? I'm sure everyone was keen to meet you and see if you're as angsty as you are in your journal
Why not? I'm sure everyone was keen to meet you and see if you're as angsty as you are in your journal
Even the word "angst" is an understatement HAHAHAHA but you're doing pretty well atm zhen, at least much better than me I can tellAngst is definitely an understatement, especially after some of the stuff I’ve said this year and some of the interesting comments I left during my English practice exam.
One of my friends wanted me to give a massive shoutout to my school’s biology departmenr for having 3 SACs left in term 4 and essentially screwing over everyone doing biology. I don’t know why the guy wanted me to post this.Don't do 3/4 Bio at MHS kids. Just do psych.
29/7/2017Same here. Marking exams takes forever especially math exam 2s if they shit on you.
Over the past two days I did a decent chunk of work. But, I feel like I need to ramp it up. Even though I’ve put in loads of hours, I feel like I haven’t done much because I spent quite a bit of the time correcting my work and being really thorough about it, so that I learn from my mistakes. Hopefully that ends up helping. I also feel like I should shift from doing practice questions to doing more practice exams now, since I’ve been doing lots of questions for some subjects without doing many timed practice exams.
Same here. Marking exams takes forever especially math exam 2s if they shit on you.Well my first exam 2 for maths was awful, but the one I did today for methods was surprisingly good considering that I haven’t done that much yet. Probably because the sample exam they provided for the new study design is easier than usual. (This is the one I did today) Hopefully we both start acing our trial exams so that all we have to work on are touching up and working on the harder questions.
I had a relaxation day yesterday, which was good. I think my lack of sleep after daylight savings and the timed English exam I did contributed to me feeling pretty burnt out yesterday and I just wasn’t able to study. But, I picked up the pace today and did heaps of study. I’ve noticed that all of my practice exam scores have shot up drastically, which is great. :) I’ve noticed that even though I might come off negatively (especially when talking about my teachers and the stresses of VCE) since this journal is my way of venting out, I think these last few months are one of the happiest periods of my life. I noticed that in the last couple of years I’ve either been looking back nostalgically at the past or too caught up in the moment that I’ve lost track of everything. But, these couple of months I’ve been cherishing every moment left and living the present at my own pace. I’ve learnt to take a step back and really appreciate life. It’s really sad that this stage of my life is slowly coming to an end. :'( But, hopefully the next stage of life is even better and hopefully I can make even more amazing memories. ;D
This is really great to read Zhen! I feel like the end of highschool is a bittersweet moment and I feel like it's so important that during the hussel and bussel of year 12 that times where you just step back and relax can prove to be the most beneficial in the long run! All the best for exams bro!All the best for you too! ;D
How many exams have you done for each subject? Not enough in my opinion. Like 3 or 4 per subject, but you shouldn’t take me as a guide since I began to slack off on my second week of holidays and focus more on English cause of the upcoming SAC and cause it’s the first exam. Do as many exams as you can and make sure you correct them properly and list out all your mistakes. Correction process is in my opinion just as important as doing the exam, so make sure you correct your exams properly cause some students do heaps of exams but don’t learn from them because they don’t correct their exams properly. Aiming to have 15 or so exams finished for each subject by exam time. Going to cram across the time until the exams and maybe ditch a few classes to do so. :P
Wow. Your English teacher is either a) retiring soon, b) lost the passion to teach, c) hates your class or d) some other reason for being this bad.

I actually don't get this passive aggressiveness from your teacher. I highly recommend you document if you can what he has done and get other students in the class to back you up & got to your year level co-ordinator to report this behaviour.
What he is doing is inappropriate and unprofessional as well. I know this won't change anything for you and your class most likely, but hopefully it will stop him teaching Year 12 next year.
As for getting feedback, try going to other English teachers for feedback if possible on your practice work or here on ATARNotes.
All the best though zhen. You have sympathy for your predicament.
or has got a somewhat guranteed contract LOLEveryone suspects that some of the notorious teachers at my school have contracts which is why they can get away with it in spite of the fact that even other teachers joke about how bad they are. I think my English teacher has just lost his desire to teach and does not want to cope with the workload of properly teaching and marking essays.
teachers are always good (well hard working) for the first 6 months - 2 years when their future is uncertain but when it's not heaps drop off heavily .
28/10/2017
It’s nearly time for our final exams. I’m pretty content with the amount of work I’ve done for English, but hopefully I can squeeze in like 5 more essays before the exam. I don’t really feel prepared for English but I don’t know if I’ll ever feel prepared for English. I’ll just try to do my best and not panic. I’m praying that I get topics I’ve done before and that the argument analysis piece is something that I like. I really need to start studying hard for my other subjects after English finishes. This year has been pretty good considering all the unique challenges I’ve faced. (You can read about them throughout my journal) Over the last month I’ve been stressing out about whether I can get a 99, but recently during the time that I’ve tried the hardest I’m thinking that it doesn’t matter what score I get. What matters is the process and the challenges I’ve faced in VCE. I’d love to get a 99 atar, but I think it shouldn’t be the end of the world if I don’t. Anyway, good luck to everyone!!! ;D
5 more???!? Jesus fuck me dead I planned on stop writing full pieces on Sunday lmaooooooo.Ended up doing like 3 or 4 more, so it was an optimistic goal.
GL brethren.
Wow that’s a very positive attitude, I’m impressed. It will hold you in good stead for all you exams. It’s only really now that I’ve realised succumbing to fear of failure will only hold you back from achieving success. There’s no guarantees in VCE, just like there’s no guarantees in life, and if you spend all your time searching for some proof that your work will be validated, you just won’t end up doing anything. Good luck for English!
Just want to say, zhen: it's been a pleasure reading your updates.
Another shoutout to Eric11267 (specialist nerd) for being my English buddy for the latter half of the year and more importantly for the KFC today. The pleasure was all mine zhen. Thanks for dealing with my incessant annoyance throughout the whole year and carrying my English study score. Even though I didn't feel great about the english exam today, without your help I probably would have done even worse. Good luck for your upcoming exams! I know you'll kill them... especially physics.
2/11/2017That last sentence is how I felt overall about my whole highschool student life. I would not let that get to you personally. Why? Because your young and you have times to make fond memories. You always can make treasured memories.
Today, I had one of my mini breakdowns. In 13 more days, I will finish my last exam which is physics. Today, I’ve just been thinking about the all the different people who have been helping and supporting me throughout VCE and that after this year there are going to be lots of people that I won’t be able to keep in contact with. :'( I’m feeling pretty depressed that it’s ending so quickly and I wish that I could go back and make a couple more fond memories.
2/11/2017I think a lot of people go through this when they're sitting their final exams! I went through at least a solid term, if not more, of being super sad about high school ending last year haha.

Yes VCE is a special place for everyone who does it, but so are other things like university, your first job, your first kiss, your first crush, etc. I wouldn't dwell on the mistakes and regret of not making memorable memories. I would advise you go and make new ones because you always can. It just starts with you.
I think a lot of people go through this when they're sitting their final exams! I went through at least a solid term, if not more, of being super sad about high school ending last year haha.
If you want to keep in contact with people though, it's really worth the effort. You might not be able to see each other that often, but it doesn't have to break your bond.
And seriously, some people you'll find you were only friends with because you saw each other 5 days a week. It's really interesting to see how friendship group dynamics change with the transition into uni and other endeavours.
It's said that year 12 is ending, but there are so many exciting times ahead of you :D You'll always have the memories to look back on, and in these last 2 weeks, you can try to make as many memories as possible! High school really is just the end of the beginning. :)
What you're feeling at the moment is perfectly normal tbh I think it hit for me at around this time last year too.
But here's the thing that only really clicked for me earlier this year: the end of Year 12 doesn't have to mean the end of friendships and losing contact. Like don't get me wrong, it's not as easy as high school where you rocked up to school every day and people were just there but I've found that even a little bit of effort goes a long way.
Also re keeping in contact: Facebook also helps (like don’t get me wrong, it’s no substitute but better than nothing when it comes to friends who go interstate or overseas). Legit went on an adding spree post high school and added all the friends I didn’t already have added on Facebook and funnily enough my teachers found me on Facebook and added me and everyone else in my year level (yay to having a super small and tight-knit cohort) but ngl it's been so interesting finding out that my teachers are actually people and have lives outside of school. :o ;D ;D
Like seriously if there's any classmates or anyth that you don't want to lose contact with, make sure you've got them on facebook (or whatever you cool kids are using these days) cos technology is amazing for keeping in contact.**
**unless you're trying to use it to do a group project at uni where magically people sometimes start seeing messages but forgetting to reply cos “technology sucks” lmao
LMAO connected the dots a while back but kinda forgot altogether til you mentioned it just now (or rather, brenden connected the dots for me and mentioned it in passing at some point I think) and if I didn't already know that lowkey savage comment about your eng teacher would've definitely confirmed it lmaoBrenden connected the dots cause he remembered I attended MHS and I posted asking about tutesmart on these forums ages ago. About my essays being fine, I’ll just stare intently at that 5/10 argument analysis. Also, my whole journal is just a place for ranting about my teachers.
btw your essays were fine idk what you're talking about
About my essays being fine, I’ll just stare intently at that 5/10 argument analysis.
Just wondering, but you do realise that I’m your annoying student
Love this haha. This is the type of thing that happens in anonymous forums. A couple of my friends were looking for a year 12 with a last name of zhen throughout my school because they wanted to know who this zhen person was that was posting on atarnotes so much. It’s funny because I was like the last person they suspected and that my last name doesn’t actually doesn’t have zhen in it.

I feel you bro, this was honestly me at the start of the year, like in Term 1...I know, Term 1 :o and I was already worrying about things happening 12 months later. But let me tell that it will pass. It did for me and it will for you. Like zofromuxo, K888 and HopefulLawStudent have said, let time do it's thing. Probably the best words of advice, I can give regarding this. While it's nice and helpful even to keep in touch with everyone, you'll soon find that you'll bond more with some and drift a little with others. This isn't to say don't keep in touch with them, more so be open. Open to change and open to gaining and losing people. Hang in there bro, we've only just started the last sprint of our marathon! Best wishes! Thanks for the advice. ;D I guess right now I’m frightened of change, but I should be more open to it and accept that it’s bound to happen.
Today I spent most of the day in the library at Monash university and I just got back home. I did a heap of study and I’m pretty satisfied with what I’ve done today. I was pretty surprised that I spotted quite a few other high schoolers studying for VCE exams in the library. I guess that everyone (including me) is desperate to really nail the rest of their exams. What really bothered me today in the last few hours, when I got back to the library after lunch, was that there were people talking pretty loudly while everyone else was silent and studying. It’s one of the things that really annoys me. Anyone else have a similar experience?
law library at monash 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors are nice quiet areas which are strictly no talking - where I usually go. :)I’ve been to the law library before and I feel awkward going there as a high school student, especially if I’m in my school uniform. I’ve been going to mathesons, which is usually quiet, but there are some exceptions.
Any other libraries you'd recommend? I've just been going to state, and the constant sounds of footsteps is starting to annoy me...

I've just been going to state, and the constant sounds of footsteps is starting to annoy me...I go state sometimes ahah but usually only early in the semester when I have time to hangout in the city :P and also because you need a UoM student card to be in melbourne uni's libraries
Any other libraries you'd recommend? I've just been going to state, and the constant sounds of footsteps is starting to annoy me...RMIT, i think lvl 8 are for students, not entirely sure but my mates sometimes go there. In state, everyone goes to the chess room to study, but usually the side halls on the first floor are pretty quiet.

I've just been going to state, and the constant sounds of footsteps is starting to annoy me...If you're down south-east suburbs way, the library at Monash Peninsula is potentially the quietest library I've ever been in, plus, there's always heaps of free seats. ;)

Got a lot done in the library today, which I’m pretty happy with. Hopefully I can do another exam 1 before the end of the day. I’m really tired right now after the month long grind so far, but I’m going to push until the end cause I only have a bit left. Right now I’m listening to Yiruma’s river flows in you, which is so relaxing. :)
YES! I love this song of his as well! Have you heard the guitar cover of it? It's so good!Just heard a guitar cover of it, which was way better than I expected. It was actually really good, but I still prefer the piano version over it. The piano version just sounds so elegant and soothing.

15/11/2017Congratulations on finishing, zhen. :)
I’m finally done. VCE is officially over. ;D It honestly feels really anticlimactic especially after all the studying in the leadup to exams. I think I want to thank HopefulLawStudent and my methods teacher who were the two people keeping me sane and really helped me learn. I’m really grateful to them for all they’ve done to help me especially after my unique experiences with my other teachers. I also want to thank all the friends that have supported me throughout the year. They’ve had to endure the pain of having to hear me rant about VCE for the past year. I’m going to relax and just chill for now, but I’ll be back to post and help people out on atarnotes.
Hi-jacking your post Zhen, sorry my dude!! Just wanted to say congratulations on completing VCE!! Among many other individuals you were an integral part of my VCE journey, your constant help, advice and insight are something of such a sheer insurmountable magnitude that gratitude can no longer suffice. So although it wont amount to much, but on behalf of many and from myself, we thank you for your service this year!! I hope our paths cross in the future at University because you beam personal qualities I respect, yet it is your assiduous and tenacious nature that is to be revered by all. ENJOY YOUR HARD EARNED BREAK!!Thanks. Your kind words mean a lot more to me than you think.
Congratulations on finishing, zhen. :)
It's been a pleasure reading your updates and I hope you enjoy your break! :D
Thanks, I’ll probably continue to update my journal until the atar release date, when I’ll hopefully be fully free from the clutches of VCE.Make sure you stick around afterwards, too!
Make sure you stick around afterwards, too!Ye, I’ll make sure I stick around and hopefully help out the next generation.
You'll be able to come hang with the uni crew and also pass on some awesome insight to the class of 2018 :)
Congratulations on finishing, Zhen! :)Ye I’ll do my best to enjoy these holidays. I have so many things I want to do but I’m not sure where to start.
enjoy your break :D
Congrats Zhen! :)Ye, I think we’ve come a long way since the start of the year. I’ve also been reading your posts (and kind of being a stalker lol) and you’ve really done a lot to help out around atarnotes. Also, good luck on your Latin exam (I think it’s your last exam).
I've been reading your posts consistently since the start of the year back when I too was new to AN. I have to say your wisdom and understanding is inspiring, and particularly your journal is fantastic as many have pointed out.
I hope you take the time to relax and try to forget about VCE until ATAR day. Look forward to seeing you around on AN!
Wah so popular on ANNot really and I’m not popular at all in real life. You should know this.
Congratulation Zhen on finish VCE! Woo! You're free bro! Like many before me, your journal has been a pleasure to read and at certain times, when I was feeling demotivated or was having a bad day, reading your journal reminded me that I wasn't alone in this VCE marathon and for that, I sincerely thank-you!Thanks for your kind words. Right now I’m just praying for good results on the 15th. All the best for your results on the 15th too.
Congratulations again Zhen, and I wish you nothing but the absolute best for the 15th of December, 2017. Take care bro!
Definitely THE vce journal I could relate to. Always a pleasure to read this and know that others are experiencing exactly what I've been experiencing. (but fortunately not the bad teachers- but with your dedication I don't think it was much of a problem)Actually having these teachers was quite the obstacle to overcome. Well, when people ask me why I didn’t do well in VCE, at least I have an excuse. :P I’ll stay around on AN next, year but I don’t think I’ll be active as I’ve been this year cause I’ll probably have a lot of new obligations and I’ll probably be really busy. I hope I flourish in real life, but being the socially inept, vertically challenged, chubby asian that I am, I probably won’t. :P Anyway, all the best to you. Hopefully we end up with scores we’re content with.
CONGRATZ FOR FINISHING VCE 2017!~~~~ ;D
Be sure to stay around in AN next year, I know I will :D In the end, I personally have learnt so much skills and knowledge from VCE that I can take with me for the rest of my life, and I hope you can relate to this. (teamwork, taking initiative etc.) So, regardless of our results I hope you will flourish irl :P
Hi zhen,Thanks for such a heartwarming message. Best wishes to you too. :) Also, since you’ve finished your exams, maybe you could also start posting a bit more and helping out the lower year levels. Would love to see you around the forums. ;D
I realise I haven't posted all that often on ATARNotes this year, but I certainly have kept up with reading your journal over these past months. I really appreciate the honesty and thought you've put into these posts. I've experienced very similar circumstances with some teachers, SACs and exams this year, so I can assure you that I know exactly how you feel - reading your journal always assured me that I was never entirely alone in my frustration. :)
You've been so dedicated and hard-working all year - we all recognise that you've done everything you can to receive your best result and ultimately, that is all something that we should aspire to achieve. I really hope that you're proud of yourself and the enormous amount of effort you've put into your VCE journey.
I understand that the anxious wait for results and the thought of the open-ended future that lies ahead can be quite daunting. I have no doubt that you will flourish in all aspects of university life next year. Promise us all that you'll continue to take challenges into your stride and always persevere, even if the road ahead seems difficult.
Thank you so very much for all that you've contributed to the AN community this year and best wishes for December 15th. :)
Ok, over the holidays I’ve done a lot of hanging out with friends already which has been nice. But, things have started to slow down and I’m starting to get bored of anime and games. I’m going to put a massive list of things I plan to do during the holidays. I’ll probably add to this list if things pop up.9. Post on AN!Also, still haven’t gotten any messages of interest for free tutoring. :'( I’m guessing that no one would trust someone to tutor them without knowing their score, even if it’s free.
- Get my Ls
- Start drawing again
- Get fit
- Start casually studying for fun
- Start tutoring (hopefully)
- Do some volunteer work
- Hang out with friends
- Read books
Can confirm Zhen is a great person on AN and in real life. Goes to the same school as me but probs doesn't know who I am. Have been keeping an eye on his guide and he is very friendly and someone I can relate to very closely. mad respect for everything this guy does.I’m here left wondering who you are right now cause I have no clue from your username. Edit: Did a bit of stalking and saw that you’re rank 1 in MHS for methods, so I think I know who you are. Also, I’m guessing that you found out my identity from Eric11267. Just to confirm, we both had a “unique” experience in English this year right? Edit 2: If you’re who I think you are, you found out during the year 12 photo after the English trial exam or Eric11267 talks way too much about me.
9. Post on AN!Right now I just want to get some experience and see whether or not tutoring is for me (which is why I’m offering it for free). For now I’ll just leave this on Atarnotes and see if anyone messages me. Right now my school is going through the transition to a new year level type thing, so it’ll be a massive hassle for teachers if I asked them about this stuff cause they’re probably not going to be in contact with their this year’s students at all. I’ll probably do more intensive advertising on facebook and other places if I actually start wanting to tutor seriously. But, for now all I want is one or two students as a way to get experience and help someone out that’s struggling.
RE: tutoring, you might need to get your first few students through people you know! So maybe email your teachers to see if they know anyone who might benefit from some extra help, or ask any family friends or something. :)
You probably have to push it a bit to get the first few people (even if they're younger people that you're helping with their maths), but once you get a few, you'll be fine. I'd also recommend posting on facebook about it!

100% agree. Not sure why being Asian is even worth mentioning?
socially inept: You mentioned that you've been hanging out with your friends....which you wouldn't do if you were actually socially inept. prob being a it harsh on yourself m8
vertically challenged: ? dunno how this is a problem
chubby: Is this related to fitness?
asian: how is this a bad thing?
I reckon you'll be fine haha

100% agree. Not sure why being Asian is even worth mentioning? You guy’s are absolutely right. Most of the things I mentioned basically shouldn’t matter, except for the socially inept thing, which I’ve been working on by hanging out with friends more this year.
- Start casually studying for fun
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :oActually, zhen has a very good point. If you go into your studying with the idea that you will enjoy the content, your schooling will usually be a) more enjoyable and b) better for your brain, and you will actually find that it has applications that you can toy with in your mind.
Ok, so I’m getting more and more nervous about results day and stressing out about what score I’ll get, which I know is absolutely pointless, but I still do it. A lot of stuff has happened over the holidays, so I’ve been able to keep myself busy. But, things have slowed down and now I’m stressing out a lot more than I should. I’m just hoping that I get a score that I’m content with. Anyway, right now I should probably be distracting myself with some good shows to watch.
What are you watching at the moment? :)I was watching 13 reasons why, but stopped cause I needed something a bit more lighthearted. Instead, I’m just watching random youtube videos for now, but I’m not sure how long that’ll distract me.
I should probably start doing more productive stuff soon cause I’m getting bored of just chilling every day.
