ucat computer keyboard

Hello there,

so im sitting the ucat in july and i've been practising using my laptop keyboard (with the numbers at the top for the calc). I realised that the numbers at the top of the alphabet don't work on the ucat website from my keyboard and I have to manually click each number on the calculator. Is this the case for the actual test as well? for people that have sat the ucat in the past, where there any significant differences in the technical set up that you wish you'd been aware of beforehand?

thanks for the help!

Yeah, the calculator is a bit of a pain. In most cases, you should only be using the calculator for checking answers or if you can't do a question manually simply because the calculator is a bit slow. I seem to recall this being the case for the actual test as well.

You shouldn't be too surprised at the actual set up (if you've done mocks, they are very similar and designed to be so). I'd say the likelihood that something significant changes depends only on the different quirks of each testing centre (ie. layout, materials they give you, etc.).

I seem to recall you having to click manually. Apologies for not being abundantly clear :D

Use the numpad. It’s fast and efficient. Make sure numlock is on first though! If your device doesn’t have a numpad, then I suggest practising with one that does have it. It’s just so much faster than inputting numbers into the calc via the numbers at the top of the keyboard or using the mouse to manually click on the numbers. I suggest you try it out and see how you find it, because you certainly don’t have any time to waste in the UCAT, and time wasted can really add up. In the real test, the entire keyboard should work, including the numbers at the top and the numpad (at least, it did for me and my friends) and I recall using the numpad during practice tests on the official website.
