ATAR Question
(1/1)
Ra.Na:
For the top 10 units counted for your atar: if a lower scaling subject gets counted instead of a higher scaling subject eg. physics, does it lower your atar?

Hi...
The top 10 units for your atar are determined by the highest scaled scores (after taking into consideration how each subject scales differently). Thus, if you have a "low scaling" subject in your top 10, and not a high "scaling subject", then it means the former scaled better, and it does not any way lower your atar just because you have a "low scaling" subject in there.
(That was probably a bit wordy, sorry ;D). Here's an example for my own atar calculation: I did 12 units, and my food tech score was in the top 10, but my 2u maths mark was not (as my food tech mark was a lot higher than maths, and thus became a higher scaled mark). Having food tech in my top 10 did not disadvantage my atar at all, despite it being a "low scaled" compared to 2u, but food tech actually maximised it.
Hope this makes sense! :)
