2020年2月19日水曜日 - Update

I have been so busy and can you believe it? It's already Week 4 (I think).

Here's a breakdown of what happened in terms of tests just for a glimpse of how busy and sad my life is rn
      • Methods - I just had a test today. It's not counted in the report or anything, just literally practice but regardless, a test feels like a test. I'm honestly not too sure how well I did. I realized I have enough practice, it's mostly about ironing out the careless mistakes since I understand my content fairly well and have done enough questions in untimed conditions
      • Spesh - I had my spesh test two weeks ago and I actually did a lot better than I thought I did (considering I didn't just a bit, didn't do any practice tests and neglected the holiday homework lol). To be fair, our spesh 1/2 course is kinda designed for students who are doing 3/4 and it was just trig and circular functions.
      • Chem - Chem might as well eat me. I had my chem test on the same day as spesh two weeks ago and another chem test last week Monday and I did horrible in both :)
      • Jap - I have my jap sac next week ahhhhhhh I mean it's 1/2 but ahhh it's conversation and I can't even have a "spontaneous" conversation in English

Methods has still remained my favorite subject by far but spesh is really cool too. I think it helps to have an awesome spesh teacher (my spesh teacher literally gives us time to work on our 3/4's). We have finished functions and I think we are going to finish transformations soon? Transformations was my least favorite topic last year but I've gotten fairly confident in it this year. It's the topic where I make the least amount of mistakes. I personally found it really easy to make some really dumb mistakes in functions though since I find it a bit more content heavy in terms of the graphs, sum and multiplication of functions, composite functions etc.

Revs has been fun but I think I regret reading ahead. It's like I know all the spoilers so everything is a bit less interesting. During class, I just write down notes based on what the teacher is saying and the power points just for extra content revision. It's been pretty chill so far. Literature is similar in that it's really, really chill. We spend a whole period analyzing a poem individually (and surprise surprise, some people do other things).

Jap has been fun but hectic. There is so much to keep up with and I need to re-edit my script for my 1/2 sac next week AND memorize it. I don't know how I will memorize 14 pages by like Wednesday rip

INCOMING RANT
Finally, best for last (worst for last), chem. Chem has been the death of me. My teacher is apparently really good. Every other student likes her but I, I am well and truly an exception. I honestly wish I could switch into the other class where the teacher doesn't explain anything and just hands the students worksheets.

If I am wearing a bracelet and a girl from another table is wearing the same exact thing, guess who the teacher comes to? That's right, me! To be fair, my first few times I got in trouble because I was focusing on the worksheet in front of me when the teacher called all of us to look at the whiteboard and I didn't hear her at all because I just happen to block every noise around me when I'm so focused on my work (something I got in trouble for a lot during primary school). But now, she just yells at me even when it's my friend who is talking to me (not saying she should yell at my friend but it's just me who's the "bad" one all the time). Obviously, I am exaggerating and she is a good teacher. It doesn't help that I have a lack of motivation to do well in this subject [aims for a 30+ study score]

Sorry about the rant. Usually, I'm careful about these kinds of things but ahhh chem wants to rip me into shreds (again, except for when I do it with my tutor). I am on good terms with all my other teachers as well, especially with my Methods and Spesh teachers - which almost always happens to be the case for me.

Other Updates:
  • It was my birthday last week. AHh how am I already 16? It was fun though, we went to an escape room and then to a korean restaurant. I booked two rooms: one horror and one about hacking a computer thing idk. I went to the horror one since it was my first time ever going to an escape room and what a great way to start. Even though I wasn't scared, I was extremely useless. I ended up being the person every person who was scared clinged onto and that one person that just kept the door open lol. My IQ was too low to actually be able to solve the mysteries lmao. Even though we failed, our team did really well
  • I moved houses so now school is a lot closer. No more having to take the trains.
  • I love having all my free periods scheduled on the last period so I can go home early : ))

And that's about it. Once again, I'm so sorry for the horrible frequency of updates. I really will try my best to post consistently but I can't guarantee because of how busy and somewhat overwhelming the Year 11 life really is!

Macrob Fun Fact: Like most schools, we have a swimming carnival (obviously not joined with mhs). This year, it's a "twilight swimming carnival" which will sorta end later on in the night. I believe it was 1-5pm or 1-6pm. I'm just glad it's a day off school because I really need some more of those.

I like where this is going ;D. Become one with Chemistry and who knows it might become your favourite subject🤣
Trust me, if you don't like 1/2 Chem you will definitely like 3/4.
HAHAHA hopefully! I think I might be enjoying the subject for the subject but hating it because of the teacher at the moment. But my hopes and optimism for chem has shattered for the time being

Who doesn't love the good old free periods? (Especially when you have them at times you can eat before the lunch rush or leave early). The true beauty of being in Year 11 is the luxury of free periods.
Oh, I just posted about this again in my latest update whoops. I think I love them a little too much. But I definitely agree with it being the luxury of Year 11s XD

Quote
A little tip for Chem (applies to all subjects but I find best works for Chem) is the night before to read your textbook out loud on the section you will cover in class and have a small sticky note of all the main key terms (and any questions). Then go to class as normal and make sure that every word you wrote on the sticky note is covered (and also see how your interpretation of the word differs from each person). It helps to understand the content better and shifts you away from memorising it on the spot? Chem is definitely one of those subjects where sometimes things make sense and sometimes the concepts are seriously just going through your head.😂
I wish our class actually followed the textbook structure. We just go around random chapters and it feels so disorganized. But that's a really good idea! I wish I read it earlier so I could have actually done that for the past week
Tysm for the advice <333

This is an absolute nightmare. I feel for you on a spiritual level here and I hope you get through the year with these lockers! (Do you have a top or bottom locker?)
I have the bottom locker but I'm thankful. I'm too short to reach the top locker anyways. It's been a bit annoying, getting almost kicked by students and teachers alike because of the horrible location but thankfully it's not too big of a deal. At least my locker is clean since I can only fit like 5 exercise books in there XD

Quote
I'm in this photo and I don't like it🤣. Same though, everything that goes into my locker usually never comes out.
HAHAHA, at least your lockers are made for that. My lockers are made to make us students angry with how little space there is. It's like we can't even use it

Quote
There goes the lockers once again. Seriously, the amount of Yr 9 students is ridiculous this year!

I'm really looking forward to seeing more updates soon Chopsticks! Sounds like you have a massive adventure this year and you will, of course, survive 2020. ;D
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate these words (and will hopefully survive 2020 thanks to them alone) :))

Plus, they LOST THE LOCKERS. Somehow the school lost 40 lockers, so half of my class (not me!) and all of 9J had to put their bags in a class room lol. Now they are just trying to work out where the hell to put them.

OMG WHAT? IS THAT LEGIT? Lucky duck, got away with having your locker. Man, most of my cohort was mad about so many Year 9's but I think most of my sympathies just go to the Year 9's alone; poor kids have to deal with all this bs

    Hey Chopsticks! ;D
You don't know how excited I get when I see a new update
Good to see that you are adjusting and figuring out your way :D.

Chem - Chem might as well eat me.
Me too Chopsticks, me too. I don't think I have ever spiritually related to something so much.🤣
Other than Chem, it's so good to hear that you are loving your other subjects!!

Absolutely understand where you are going here. My Chem teacher last year was a nice person overall, but I found it hard to adjust to their overall style (your situation was literally me last year). You might get one of the world's best teachers, but sometimes life just doesn't work out. One thing it does do is that it encourages you to fend for yourself and be an independent learner however it can get super hard when the teacher has 'biases'. Might be good to just talk it out with them if it does escalate (you guys want to be working together. Just be honest with each other and it should work out). ~*Sending motivation for Chem*~

Closer to school? WOOHOO! That is a miracle and one of the best things to hear. Free periods last are again, a blessing. Enjoy them when you can! ;D

Totally understand this and if you want to have a more solidified understanding before you even get there to class, just ask the teacher at the start of every week what they plan to cover, hopefully, it gives you an idea what to expect. Anytime for advice~ 💕.

I'm so glad to see you are doing amazing Chopsticks! Good luck and keep up the beautiful work! You will be fine and you will absolutely smash 2020! ;D
That is 100% a mood.  Sorry to hear you are having trouble in chem, aside from the teacher how are you finding the content? Is it enjoyable? Difficultly? That sucks about the teacher. I guess everyone just has different styles of learning and whilst some teachers are great for some, others not so much. I hope it gets better for you, and who knows, maybe she will get better throughout the year.

But can I please swap methods teacher with you, they sound great compared to mine!
And that's about it. Once again, I'm so sorry for the horrible frequency of updates. I really will try my best to post consistently but I can't guarantee because of how busy and somewhat overwhelming the Year 11 life really is!
VCE is so busy with so much to do, so never feel bad for infrequency of posts. Plus, it can be a nice surprise when we haven't had one in a while :)

Happy 16th birthday! Sounds like you had an awesome time. Are you going to try get your L's?
It was nice to get an update, enjoy the rest of your week :)

Good to see that you are adjusting and figuring out your way :D.

HAHAHA REALLY? I am flattered, straight up blushing. I have been continuing this journal so that at the end of Year 12, I'll be able to see a collection of how I've grown as a person and I kinda wanted to look at my old posts but I can't because ohhh the cringe. Irl, I am one of those really crazy and weird kids so when I read my journal, I am just like why is this so boring like who would actually want to read this. So those words literally mean everything to me :D
And yes, I am still adjusting though. Some subjects are just so intense (I'm looking at you jap)
It's great to see how quickly you've adjusted to the Year 12 life. Honestly, I'm always so motivated by your journal and your words.

That is...every single word is filled with wisdom. I will keep hanging on and try to do better in chem. I think my chem teacher does like me but she just has a different way of showing it (I'll update about it in my next entry). But I definitely do agree that in the end, it has benefits too (like the independent learning thing which I have never thought about before). Thank you so much for the motivational words! I will study harder and [attempt to] follow your footsteps!

Thank you! Korean food is one of the best because I'm a sucker for spicy food. Funnily enough, everyone goes to the library to hang out during free periods. It's like if you go to the library, you will always see at least one of your friends just hanging about and around.

Imagine how hectic this would be if mhs was like 'Yo, let's join our swimming carnivals together'.😂

OMG THE SCANDALS! House Cup (which is a joined event for Year 10's only) is already one of the most controversial events because every year, at least 80% of the people complain. Each year, we complain about them being stupid and aggressive and they complain about us being annoying and petty. Maybe this is why an mhs x mghs couple never survives (I mean have you ever met a married mhs x mghs alumni)
But ew I would be so uncomfortable standing next to boys in their speedos (I believe their swimming uniform is a school speedo...don't ask how I know)

I love all of your advice. I think I should just look at the course outline - whose existence everyone seems to forget - in order to get ahead. Most macrob teachers are reluctant to let students get ahead which is really annoying. They think that everyone should learm it once the teacher teaches or something like that. Not to mention, they bear grudge against tutoring (except for my cool as spesh teacher who has no problem with it).

HAHAHAHA I want a middle locker one day...one day. Year 9 top locker was the worst though, things would fall from my locker onto other people's heads and let's just say...it wasn't very nice.
I wouldn't be surprised if I can't even fit food in there. They might as well give us those hooks like in primary school (okay maybe lockers are the better option)
Also anytime for the snowball suggestion haha. Glad it was helpful :)

Hey Geoo,

The content is kind of like, slowly coming together. I find it harder to memorize things for chemistry because of my lack of interest for it. That's why chapters like characteristics of ionic compounds, metallic bonding etc are things I struggle with a bit. The RIM and RAM stuff are a lot of fun though. I think it's really about my attitude towards it which makes it more difficult altogether. I have been prioritizing my other subjects over chem.

And yes, everyone does have different styles of learning. I am heavily reliant on my teachers in all my subjects so having a bad teacher makes a bit of a difference.

But can I please swap methods teacher with you, they sound great compared to mine!

Oh no! I need to catch up on your journal. I promise I'll get to it soon!

Yeah it really is. It's hard to explain but VCE to me is like less work than I expected but more work than I can deal with as of yet. I have little to no room for procrastination yet somehow I do (like falling asleep when I get home...is that procrastinating?)

It was nice to get an update, enjoy the rest of your week :)

Thank you for the birthday wishes! I regret not taking any pictures or videos (because I forgot) so I have no memories from it. Only one of my friends took a video where most of my friends are in it (but not me lol)
Yes, I am going to try for it. I should really start getting to it but I've been managing my time so poorly that it's been a bit difficult to get to

I'm glad you liked the update! Again, it still feels like "wow, people actually read my journal?"
Thanks so much Geoo, good luck and enjoy your week too :)
