Okay so my case is a little complicated so I’ll try to explain it as well as I can.

I’ve decided I really don’t like doing Indonesian anymore and I want to drop it. Honestly, the only reason I chose it this year Is because nothing else interested me and I didn’t want to waste all my previous years of Indonesian studies.

It’s also too much of a workload in conjunction with my other subjects (methods, specialist, chemistry, physics and English > all 1&2’s).

I also completed further maths without the 1&2 in year 10 and got a 40.

But the plan I had for year 11 was to go through the year and drop 2 subjects for year 12, giving me a easier workload, ultimately graduating with 5 subjects and only doing 4 in year 12.

I talked to the careers adviser and she wasn’t sure if I could drop a subject and have spares this year as the cases where people have dropped subjects so far is when
a) you do 2 3&4’s or
b) something about ‘undue hardships’.

Another option she said was also possible was to pick up another subject but she said it’s a bit hard as it’s already a month into school.

This is when I came up with the idea of doing 1&2 general maths, knowing that it wouldn’t be to much of a workload for me and I could ‘secretly’ use it as study time for my other subjects. She said that she wasn’t sure of the rules and it’s probably not really that smart but she was still on board as long as I understand the risks of dropping a language and graduating with 5 subjects instead of six.

So now I have to talk to the curriculum leader who can tell me what I can and can’t do.

But before that, I wanted to ask a few questions:

- is it too risky graduating with 5 subjects instead of 6? (I’m aiming for an atar in the mid 80’s)

- Would it be stupid to do general maths if I’ve already done further maths? (None of the other subjects really interest me without having a big workload)

- Is dropping Indonesian really that wise? Knowing that if I keep it, I’d probably get in the 20’s and only be doing it for the scaling.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!!

You would have done 6 subjects by the end of year 12.
No point torturing yourself to do a 7th.
