Title: Subject conformation event sheet says I’m not eligible for atar
Post by: aussie721 on November 13, 2019, 08:43:07 pm
Im a year 11 in south Australia and at my subject confirmation appointment at school, I had to present a sheet with my preferred subjects to a teacher who writes a bunch of stuff on it. On the back it one sentence says, “we acknowledge that my child is not seeking or is not eligible for an ATAR” (had to bring parent along). I need an atar of >75 to get into my course. From what I understand here, I literally can’t get an atar whatsoever. I attend a public school in south Australia. Did anyone go through the same experience? Am I missing something. Please help thanks!

I’m not taking English next year, the teacher at the meeting said English is not a requirement for sace completion in year 12 and I can get into south Australian universities without choosing English next year. Subject preferences right now are: math methods, maths specialist, physics, food and hospitality, and compulsory research project subject. Do keep in mind I am in South Australia

Did the school explain why you were ineligible for an ATAR? Sounds a little suspicious if the sheet was the only thing saying you couldn’t, and that might indicate it was a clerical mistake.

I have limited knowledge of SACE requirements for completion, but my 2 mins of research dug this up, which is a link of the requirements to successfully get your SACE. I couldn’t actually find anything about how to get an ATAR in SA, so I’m not sure, but the link above suggests that you need an English subject/ course in either Stage 1 (Year 11) or 2 (Year 12), as well as a few other requirements, to successfully obtain your SACE. I assume successful completion for the SACE would probably be involved in getting an ATAR, in addition to these requirements, to get into uni. As I said, I’m not well versed in the SA version of things (I’m Victorian), so my answer is likely wrong. Perhaps you could contact someone about this, e.g. another knowledgeable teacher or SACE Board?
