Hey guys this is my first post not really sure how this works hahah. So I am still in year 10 and I'm not accelerating in any VCE unit 1 or 2 subjects because I didn't understand the VCE system at the time which I really regret :/ Over the past few weeks I've been looking on this site for quite some time now and understand!! (whoo)

Anyways to the main point; I really want to do 6 3/4 subjects for VCE because it apparently boosts your atar? This seems very appealing so this is why I want to do one unit 3/4 subjects as my school only allows 5 subjects for year 12. I've lurked around this site and done my research that there are some subjects you can do a 3/4 of that you don't need to undertake 1/2.

My interests are now set on biology and business management but I can't take both due to the subjects I want to do in year 12 :/ What would you guys recommend? Biology only appeals to me because of the 0-1 scaling whereas business management scales down. I think I'm going to like business management more as it seems like an easier subject. If anyone has done busman and or biology I would greatly appreciate some thoughts thank you!!
from what you have said I don't see any reason for you to do biology if the only reason is the 0-1 scaling. If it was based on actual difficluty bio would probably scale 4-5.  Does busman interest you or does it just seem easy? :)
do you have any other options?

What subjects are you planning on doing in year 12?

If you're planning on doing methods you could do 3/4 further in year 11
2019: B. Environment and Sustainability/B. Science @ ANU
2020: Just Vibing
2021: B. Paramedicine/B. Nursing @ ACU Canberra

Hmm I find some parts of busman's study design but apparently it's a dry subject ?? Neither busman or biology is needed for a prereq in any uni courses I want to take. I still want to do a 3/4 in year 11 though. Most people I know who studied busman got 40+ study scores so it seems like an easy subject. Are there any other subjects that I can take 3/4 of without having to take 1/2? Thank you :)

There are actually quite of few other subjects you can take without doing the 1/2 course for example, psychology, global politics, legal, economics, revolutions, software development etc. But it does vary from school to school, so I'd suggest asking around at school to get a list of all the 3/4 subjects you can do in Year 11 and then pick one which you enjoy or have an interest in since that'll make the subject a lot easier to learn :)

I'm planning on doing chemistry, Indonesian SL, methods and specialist (which helps with the engineering course I wanna do in uni). I would consider myself a mediocre math student since I'm neither good or bad.. Are you allowed to do 3 maths? :)

Hey,
Not all schools allow you to do three maths (mine doesn't) however there are still a lot that do, so I'd just suggest asking your teachers at school

Just because many people may find Busman dry, that doesn't mean the subject won't be interesting for you. Don't be dissuaded by what other people think. Also remember that Busman is one of the most commonly completed subjects in VCE (like in the top 10, alongside English, Further, Methods, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology and Health). In many of the most completed subjects, there will be a sizable number of people that find the subject boring, as many people do it because it's a prereq or just went with flow that it's a commonly done subject or people said it was easy.

For me personally, I find Biology and Psychology more interesting so I would do them over Busman.

I do both busman and biology. i did 3/4 biology in year 11 and you definitely do not need 1/2 at all. just a light revision and you'll be absolutely fine. out of  all my subjects, im so glad i did biology because it is a heavy-content kind of subject. being in year 11 will give you an advantage because you can go more into detail on the topics you struggle with. also the topics are v interesting!

I think it depends on what youre interested in but i do find busman pretty dry. again you dont need 1/2 and its one of those subjects where its pretty common sense, whereas biology isn't really. also depends on your motivation/goals but ive seen some year 11s neglect their 3/4 busman subject because its seen as an 'easy subject'- this can be really detrimental because as you said, it gets scaled down (but bio only gets scaled by 1-2). either you can invest more time in biology to get a good score and get the 'heavy-content/harder' subjects out of the way, or you can see it as doing business because its an easy subject and you can easily get a good score with effort. also sorry if this doesnt make sense, i need a nap lol

other subjects you could possibly do:  pysch, further maths, seen some people do p.e, geography

Graduated in 2018. Top 5%.
