Atar predictions

Hi, I'm currently studying specialist, methods, chemistry, physics, English and SOR. For unit 1, I'm sitting at 90% for my worst subject. From this, I was pretty confident I could achieve an atar of 90 or at least in the high 80s but I've heard that to receive a 90, I need to get mostly A+'s. While I have maybe 1 or 2 A+, i'd say most are just A's and I genuinely don't think I'm capable of raising my grades. Would aiming for an atar in the 90s too ambitious? I'm just confused as to what grades correlate to what atar

From what I’ve heard about ATAR your probably Going to get in the high 90’s as an ATAR if you keep up your marks. Your mark doesn’t directly correlate to your ATAR score. Your ATAR score is the percentage in the state so if you get 99 you are in the top 1% of the state, if you get a 60 you are in the top 40% in the state. The new QCE ATAR system is meant to be similar to the current VCE system so if you put your results into a VCE calculator it’ll say right now you will be on around 99 which sounds correct to me as you are also doing high scaling subjects (harder subjects which make your marks better than they are e.g. Methods might scale up 5 marks but if you did drama it will scale down 2 marks because it’s an easier subject and more people achieve A’s in it then methods). You will definitely get in the 90’s no doubt about it if you get more than 90% in all subjects.

Love that you're chipping in to help out on the QCE side but a word of caution: QCE calcs are done a bit differently (e.g. they don't have ranking) and there's more uncertainty about how scaling will work. QCE also isn't on the 50 study score system so that'll likey change scaling too. The whole "percentage of state" thing is still correct.

Jasmine, seriously your grades are so good, I can't see any reason to discount yourself from getting a 90+ ATAR. When you get into year 12 there will be a better chance of being able to make those comparisons from grade to ATAR accurately (if the data from this year is released) but seriously please try not to be doubting yourself atm, I don't think you're being too ambitious at all.
