Find the x-intercepts of

i.e.

Ok this is kinda freaking me out... it's pretty obvious the reference angle here is but my calculator can't even find an exact answer!!!

Thanks

for

let , it follows that

now solve for :

, which yields us 2 solutions within the implied domain of u,

the rest you should be able to handle =)

For my reference angle I kept thinking it was for some reason - that's why i got it wrong... but my calculator really couldn't give an exact answer, weird.

Rearange the domain:

                    Multiplied domain by 2

                   -pi/5

Now Solve for

Everyone has there own technique I guess.  I love trig :)

i'm assuming you are using TI 89:

when you solve:

the answer returned is rather generic:

that is, : when you substitude an integer into , it'll be a valid solution.

for this case though, you will need to restrict the domain of x so you can actually come up with an answer:

or

and that will give u exact solutions within the right domain.

you shouldn't use ur calc when trying to find exact vales in trig anyway, they won't take decimal answers in exams and SACS.

Substituting back in, we get:

expanding:

simplifying:

multiplying through by y^3:

(but im gonna take the negative because cbf solving two, thanks mao)

therefore:

Which is as far as I will go.

Exact answer, no mathematica involved :)
