Major Key: seek.com.au + going in to retail stores and giving in resumes
2010: History Revolutions 35
2011: English 3/4, Accounting 3/4, Economics 3/4, Mathematical Methods 3/4, International Studies 3/4.

I've been checking seek and career gateway every day and applying, but I'm not having much luck.
Are you on LinkedIn?
No. I thought that was more for  professional work ?

Keep on applying and in the meantime, do some volunteering or anything that will buffer up your resume.

I'd personally try indeed rather than seek.com.au . Your best bet would be around Christmas period, they generally start hiring at around August/September so the key is to get in early. Secure the job and depending on your performance, they may keep you on.

Just a few tips:

Work to learn a new skill. Don't work for the money. Suggest purpose of finding a job: Interested in learning new skills

Always stick to the reputable companies (Woolies, Coles, Maccas, KFC) instead of smaller individually owned stores that might be paying more than the sloppy $10 an hour the reputable companies offer. A future employer would consider one that has experience working with a large enterprise, because it is most likely your future full-time job will be with a large enterprise as well among other reasons.

Anything is better than nothing. Try getting a job first, then in your spare time, go job hunting online or deliver resumes in person.

A good read: The Employment Advice Thread

Good Luck Anna on your quest to find a job :)

A four year sentence at McDonald's was one of the best things that ever happened to me :). Don't think fast food is below you - find a friend who works at a McDonald's and make them get you a job. (and otherwise just apply prolifically)
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

Hospital orderly if you don't mind putting dead people in bags

Good pay, convenient hours (night after uni) and rewarding, but it's physical work (lifting patients sometimes)

Some hospitals require a course but at epworth they train you on the job, so ring around

odeaa, what was/is your job at epworth hospital?
I did my work experience at epworth back in highschool.

Do you need experience? How much?
Any qualifications?

I've tried both of these with little success. Most places do online recruiting, and usually your hard copy resume/cover letter sadly ends up in a bin. Anyone had any luck with Seek? I've applied to a bunch of jobs on there and never even got past the first round.

The worst is when you apply for a job, and you see the advertisement reposted a few weeks later.

Seek, Gumtree etc. are worth checking out, but ads on these sites attract a very large number of applications. Major retailers also have large HR departments that are fairly selective about who they hire.

Your best bet is to drop off resumes at locally-owned restaurants/cafes/shops - these places appreciate extras and don't always advertise. They'll usually pay cash-in-hand (i.e. no paperwork, TFN or WorkCover), but will hire pretty much anyone and are good resume/reference fodder.

I can't tell much from this post. Is this your first job ever? What are your career goals and interests/ dislikes? Have you had any experience/ training in anything e.g. first aid? Have you got a WWC Check, TFN and/or ABN? There's a lot to consider before you just jump in. That being said, there's a few options.

Sorry about the questions, but with no background whatsoever, we can't give the best answer we can.
