actually, my post befor last made me think of something.

Say you make a stupid error in part a that affects the rest of the question.
You do the entire problem, then realise your mistake.
You correct the orginla mistake.
Do you then have to go make correct all subsquent affected anwsers?

I know that i you didn't know you make the mistake in part a, you would get consequential marks for the rest
But if you have corrected the orginal mistake, can you leave the rest and still get full marks?

i hope that makes sense:S

Well probably not, coz the examiner wouldn't know you got the first bit wrong and would have no idea why the rest were wrong, thus marking part b WRONG and maybe the rest right.
So, I suggest you don't try it :P

this sounds right

Nah, if they gave consequential marks then I would have lost 1.5 marks for Methods exam instead of 2.5. Also, there was a kid at our school who lost 9 marks or so for incorrectly transcribing formulas; our school requested an examination of his paper and they found that VCAA didn't give consequential marks at all even though his method was correct, and all he had done was use the incorrect formula.

I think it works like this - in each question you get a single mark allocated to the answer. If the answer is wrong, then you will lose that mark, regardless of correct method or the fact that it is a consequential error.

that is equal parts surprising and scary

1) if you're good enouhg to do umep, plz don't do further, it defeats the point of further. Further is not there for ppl to get 50's in when they clearly are capable of much higher level maths. And remember, only two maths subject can count in your top 4 anyway.

2) If you are really that good at maths, ie good eoungh to do umep, a 50 is not THAT hard to get as it comes down to carless errors. I reakon careless errors are the only thing that seperates most of the epople 45+. I know i knew the methods course backwards and careless marks were the only thinkg holding me back. If you are serious about getting a 50, not only do you need to do every single paper you can get your hand on, but be anal and tripple check evey single thing you write, even the things you thinka are wayyy to easy, like for instance, i misremebered a simple formula(finding varience, i frogot to square teh mean), that was even on the formula sheet and that cost me 2 marks on the exam. I had used it so many times before, i even remebe checking it and just letting it slip by. It's much better to do eveything correctly once, cos when you check over questions, it's easy to convice yourself your've alredy got it all right.

LOL I suppose 50 in any subject is pretty hard, you really have to be careful. Methods bores me... But hey, let's all aim for 50! It's possible, I've just got to be that little less careless :)

Lol, obviously (almost) everyone aims to get 50, it's just that their 'goals' are different (more realistic) :)
Remember, remember the 5th of November

2010 - MM CAS (47) - Cisco 1+2 (pass :P)
2011 - Eng - Phys - Chem - Spesh - Latin - UMAT
ATAR - 99.00+ plz... :)

Feel free to PM me for anything :D

it's a bit more than that, about 40 people got 50 in methods (3/4 cas and normal combined) so depends which methods your doing, i think cas is more popular this year
