Hey, it’s great that you’re keen on getting a head start on methods during your school holidays. I think the best thing to do is to do the revision chapters in the textbook that cover content from last year. Make sure that you are comfortable with the basics. If you are unsure about anything, be sure to ask on the atar notes forum :)
If you have done that and have extra time and is extra keen, you can try learning ahead through the content by going through the textbook questions.
2016: Mathematical Methods [43]
2017: English [50] | Specialist Maths [47] | Chemistry [42] | French [40] | UMEP Mathematics [4.0]
ATAR: 99.90
2018: Bachelor of Biomedicine (Chancellor's Scholars) @ UoM

Now accepting students for 2020 :)

Hi! I've got some tips at the end of my Methods Guide (link is in my signature)
If you dont have any holiday homework set by teachers, the best thing that you can do is learn from your 1/2 mistakes. If there was anything that you were not sure about during the year, it is better to get a good grasp of that before you begin 3/4.

After youve done that, you could possibly go over premilinary topics (i.e chap 1 in the Cambridge Textbook.) This will hep you get a little bit ahead, and will relaly consolidate this learning when it is taught in class. It is also worth noting when yoour SACs are, and creating a revision timetable for Methods.

Dont go too ahead though, just do what your capable of, and dont forget to rest  ;D

Good luck!!

Absolutely agree that you should start with textbook questions during the holidays! I suggest starting by writing up just a general list of the topics that are in methods 3/4, mark out the ones you plan to get through before school starts, as well as the topics which you struggled with in 1/2 or you think will be challenging this year. This helps you get a sense of the big picture and ensures you’re not blindly diving into the subject.

Definitely try to get ahead on textbook questions if you can. Most if not all the people I know who scored 40+ in methods had finished Unit 3 textbook questions before school even started, some even finished the entire textbook. Whether you want to do that is up to you, but just make sure you’re not just rushing through the textbook for the sake of completing it early.

VCE: Literature [50] Methods [50] Further [48] Chemistry [40] Biology [33]
2022: Bachelor of Science (Mathematical Economics) @ ANU

Yes definitely start with the textbook. It is the best precursor to exam questions imo. Just go through the book from front to back answering questions from each chapter. Some people will answer every question whilst others will select enough until the feel that they have understood the concept properly. The latter can be done by answering a few of the easy questions, average questions and then testing yourself with the difficult questions which are usually at the end of the chapter. Also, there will be a lot of questions where it is something like 1(a) to 1(h) if it is the same type of question you really only need to do a few of them.

However, there is no need to rush. An in-depth understanding of 1/4 of the course over the holidays is better than superficially understanding the entire course.
