Hey AN,

As the title suggests, is this possible?

Thanks,
SmartWorker

There's no VCAA requirement to do Methods 1&2 before 3&4, but whether this is recommended depends on your mathematical ability and background. I'd talk to your school and convenor's to see what whether they'd allow it.

Thanks Tau, in the event I am allowed what topics are new to 3/4 course and what topics are carried on from 1/2

Thanks Tau, in the event I am allowed what topics are new to 3/4 course and what topics are carried on from 1/2

Theres quite a lot of overlaps between 1/2 and 3/4, as most of the topics are built upon in 3/4.
The main topics covered in 3/4 are: (i've probably missed a lot but these are the most important ones)
- Implied, maximal domains, the Derivative function, Probability  (taught in Unit 1/2 but built upon in 3/4)
- Circular Functions, Various Graphing (carried on from Year 11)
- Statistics, integration (new to 3/4)

Hope this helps! Depending on your mathematical background, and how strong you are in maths, you MIGHT be able to skip 1/2. However, it is very important that you do get a good understanding of the topics covered in Year 11 over the summer break if you end up doing so.

Good luck!

Yes it is possible but not recommended (unless you are studying/have already studied 1/2 methods concepts outside of school).

HIGHLY don’t recommend because 3/4 is essentially just a continuation and extension of 1/2 and even if you do catch up, it’s just unnecessary stress and workload. You don’t want to be neglecting your other subjects in the process.

Thank so much everyone ;D. This I basically did the methods 1/2 in school, my teacher picked topics out of it and the spesh book. Do you think with this in mind and if I really work hard, would it be still possible (I'm in Bio 3/4 as well next yr).

Yeah definitely possible.

I did methods 3/4 and systems eng 3/4 this year (both without 1/2), the first couple of weeks were really intense but once you get into it, and if you enjoy what you do, then it’ll be fine. Also, if you’re doing spesh as well, there’s overlapping content which could help you.

Thank you milanander, I'll get in contact with my school to ask if it is possible
