Title: English Adv. Mod. A ( :( )
Post by: claudia007 on October 15, 2019, 12:44:34 pm
this is just quick question regarding hag-seed

I'm v confused as to the 'metafiction' aspect of hagseed, can someone please phrase it clearly for me, or clarify this ?

(I realise that it is multilayered, but do I phrase it as a play within a play, within a novel?)

Hey, claudia007!

You could look at the idea of the novel representing the process of coordinating a production of The Tempest as Atwood's means to both establish a direct intertextual connection to Shakespeare and to reveal the continual value of drama (and its representations of themes such as imprisonment, legacy, revenge etc.) in the modern world. Hope that makes sense!
