How do you guys tackle experimental design questions? What's your "formula"?

Not my strongest point but:

-Use keywords such as 'experimental' and 'control' group.
-Maintain similar environment for all (temp, pH, humidity,diet, etc)
-Maintain large sample size.
-Make sure to duplicate the experiment multiple times if necessary.
-Use participants that are usually of the same age, health, status, etc.
-Might want to state how experiment could be improved.
-State whether experiment was supported/negated and ALWAYS make comparative statements.

do you have to state what the independent and dependent variables are?

Yes, the IV and DV are incorporated into the hypothesis. Sometime you have to provide a hypothesis and other times they already provide one for you and you have to create an experiment that could prove that hypothesis. :)

-What are you testing? What are you aiming to prove? (i.e. hypothesis)
-Large group, controlled environment (who can tell me why?)
-Describe how your experiment will go...does it prove what you're looking for? How can you draw conclusions from it?
-What conclusions will support your hypothesis? What conclusions won't?

Stem cells
a. are used in human reproductive cloning
b. are also called adult (somatic) cell types
c. can be obtained from a 2 or 4 cell embryo
d. can differentiate into a limited number of cell types

I'm really confused about the different types of gene mutations
They seem to be categorized under different ways in the various sources I have read..
Can somebody please provide a list of the different mutations and what category they belong to?

A macromutation is any mutation where chunks of chromosome get moved. From there, you can sort the categories easily enough.

Leading strand is synthesised at its 3' end
DNA polymerases only add nucleotides at the 3' end; synthesis from 5' to 3'
So the template strand is being read 3' to 5'

such as MOET(multiple ovulation embryo transfer) and AI (artificial insemination) ?
also the processes of IVF?

Blunt ends are quite useless, if you have sticky end, you have some DNA bases sticking out from the fragment and can easily hypridise (blunt ends generally can't)
