If I want a study score of 50 should I start working my ass off now? How many hours should I study that will guarantee me a 50?

basically nothing will guarantee someone a 50 - luck and how a student feels on exam day is a big component of it all

Definitely agree with Sine re: luck of the draw on the day, but that doesn't mean you can't get a 50, or a 49, or a 48 etc. - all of which are similar and have similar utility.

Also does a 48 or 49 scale up to a 50? Tbh I want that premier award lol.

Depends on the subject. Eco, from memory, typically scales up a little bit (although this depends on the performance of students in that particular year, so you can't be 100% sure). I'd be surprised if a 48 or 49 scaled to a 50, though.

Pretty sure that eco goes up by 2 if you score around the 30s. But if you get 48 or 49 (or apparently even just above 45), it would scale up by less than 1.

I don't think economics scales over 50. The only subjects I can think of which go over 50 (from a raw score under 50) are LOTEs, specialist mathematics and Maths Methods. Although, Methods doesn't go over 50 every year.

Also, possibly Algorithmics but the cohort size for that is really small so study scores and scaling get a bit weird.

Economics does not scale over 50 and only goes up by 2(that isn't too bad). I want a good study score in this subject because I enjoy it and I hope atar notes can assist me in getting to my goals.

I think eco is the second highest scaling non-stem subject for VCE, so yeh definitely not too bad!

Same - I'm kind of aiming for uni extension eco next year so I really hope to smash out this year's studies.

good luck to you!

Btw what is uni extension?

it's where year 12 students study two university subjects during vce, and it can count towards your atar and also means you can do less subjects in uni.

I was thinking of doing Monash extension accounting and finance, but it has 3/4 accounting as a prereq (which I dropped, though I might redo it next year); but Melbourne Uni extension has economics (with vce methods and economics as prereq) but you need to have a raw 38 in eco to be considered. I've heard you need at least 40+ to have a good chance though, since the application is competitive.

Nice!!! No one at my school ever did uni extension tho. Last year apparently only 2 people scored 40+ at my school in eco. Both were also in year 12 a that time.

two 40+ in one subjects sounds like an amazing achievement, my school had 7 study scores over 40 in total last year hahah.

I know aside from melb uni and monash, other universities also have extension - la trobe, RMIT, and swinburne are what I can think of, maybe more as well, and they all offer different study areas. Last year someone at my school did extension at la trobe and got a really massive boost to her atar score.
