I've never been to a summer school and I tend to advise against them, but if you're keen to get a headstart, they will give you that. You don't need them to succeed in year 11 or year 12 (and you could probably cover an overview of the courses by yourself from reading through the textbook), but they don't hurt either. It could be a good idea if you aren't easily motivated. I probably wouldn't have bothered signing up for courses in the 1/2s, but they could be good.

In short, I don't know.

Personally I'd say no.. but then again my school was very rigorous in teachings for all of the subjects I took.

It definitely can't hurt...

I'm doing the tssm for 3/4 physics, methods and chem! From what i read on the website they seem reasonable and it gives you a general background on what you will be covering throughout the unit making the couse less daunting. Its really up to the person and whether they feel the benefits outway the costs.  :)

guess i'll see u in physics and chem then!!!

lolz @ Mozart (who is long dead btw :P ), theres no real point going to unit 1/2 summer schools, yr 11 is practically a muck-around year compared to yr12 anyways, just put in during class and be ready for a solid year work in yr12! lolz
one of my friend did it, it didnt help him in anyways other than lighten his wallet...

i'm goign to the physics/chem/specialist tssm ones, anyone care to join me and advertise fsn??!!!!!

it definitely can't hurt. but if they are expensive, then only do the subjects that u are struggling with.

hrmm well see im generally gud at these subjects and i'm half way through chapter 2 in the physics book and methods doesnt seem to worry me. I'm mainly taking them for reassurance and just to give that little extra edge. The way i see it is that either way you can't really loose as you gasin atleast SOMETHING.. if not anything.

but i reken the legal 3/4 is going to be helpful.
but yer i undertand were your coming from, units 1&2 don't mean anything however physics units 3&4 and methods 3&4 greatly use the concepts that are learnt in units 1&2, so if i can grasp and understand the whole 2 units in and out then that would be no probs.

TSSM is offering 3 subjects for the price of 2 which i thought was pretty good. I'm sure if u shopped around u might be able to find some cheaper ones (probably still quite expensive though), whether there any good is a different question altogether. I agree with obsolete chaos, i dont beleive its worth doing it for 1/2 subjects unless you struggle with the subject!!

I did one for biology 3/4 before the mid-year exam. They provided us with a helpful book of notes, went through all the concepts and did some practice questions. The lecture was by NEAP.. I think these holidays I might attend one for chemistry, just to revise some of the concepts. Also am thinking of going to a language school, in order to practice German..

As others have said, I don't think it's worth it for 1/2 subjects. My maths teachers actually advised us AGAINST going to any maths summer classes (both specialist and methods)! They said that many students have gone to them, started Year 12 and have been completely confused by the contradicting methods taught to them by the seminar lecturers and their teachers.

Hmmm...the notes sound all right! Yeah there are some really expensive ones out there. lol, hotel university...i guess that would provide a good insght into uni life (probably a recruitng camp in some ways!!) My teacher said that these summer schools are mostly aimed at bright students and that if your struggling it might be best to get a tutor. all depends on the kid i suppose!

true true, to keep up with the lectures u actually need to know the entire course b4 u start, or at least have the capalbility to understand it in a glance...
otherwise a tutor is the best :P
