[QCE] Predict Your Subject Scores/ATAR, Compare on Results Day!
« on: November 11, 2020, 12:50:01 pm »

It's ATAR Notes tradition! ;D

The end of the first ever lot of QCE external exams under the new ATAR system is drawing nearer! The next month or two can feel like a pretty long wait, so why not fill the time a little by predicting your results for each subject, and then for the ATAR overall? When the time comes in December, you can then compare your estimations to the real thing. :) Use this thread to come back and revise your predictions if they change over the next few weeks!

Have at it below. :)

I am very bad at predicting, I have no idea if I am getting A’s or C’s for my exams but using my internals and using a “worst case scenario” system, I have made these predictions:

English: 74 :/
Mathematics: 73 :/
Biology: 85 :)
Psychology: 85 :)
Legal Studies: 93 :)
Music: 85 :)

I am assuming I will achieve roughly an atar between 75-85, I have decent marks, but some of my subjects “traditionally” scale a bit low. My high 80’s and low 90 should provide me with relief for the setback in English. I think maths won’t count for me, but I don’t know because music might be scaled down quite a bit.

This is me kind of saying to myself, if worse comes to worse, this is what I would get, I am being reallllllyyyyyyyy harsh on myself with these marks. If I’m honest, I think biology and psychology would be around 90, English may be around 77 and legal might gain another point or two.

But, what do you all think? If my worst case scenario comes true...I need an ATAR of 77 ;-;

December 19 could not come any slower 😭

I’m stressing out real bad about my ATAR rank (if I’m even getting one (DAMNED ENGLISH))
I predict that I’m going to get a rank between 40 and 60 based on the scores I think I got (although I am a rather pessimistic person when it comes to results):

English: 40/100
Music: 60/100
Chemistry: 48/100
Physics:53/100
Mathematical Methods: 40/100
Specialist Mathematics: 40/100

I’m more concerned about getting my QCE certificate as I’ve received an early offer from QUT (and conditionally accepted as I’m still hoping that my rank will miraculously be decent).

Is it possible to get an ATAR rank but not a QCE certificate?
AND
Can a University take your offer away? The QTAC thingy under the course I’ve applied for says that I’ve already satisfied the requirements. I checked multiple times for course requirements and it made no specific mention about having a QCE certificate  - just that the person needs: “completion of year 12 or attained 18 years of age” (I’ve just graduated and I’m 18).

I’m sorryyyyy

The reason for taking the subjects I took was because they were the subject prerequisite for course I was hoping (and still hoping) to get into engineering (I got into bach of science).

Note for future ATAR students: taking purely maths and science subjects are honestly more trouble than they’re worth if you’re taking it because they’re traditionally “heavily-scaled” subjects. Unless you’re truly passionate and have a genuine interest for those subjects (+ willing to study 4 hours every night, though you should be doing that regardless of what subject you’re taking), I wouldn’t recommend taking 2 maths and 3 sciences for your 5 general subjects.  Either you’ll slay taking those subjects, or it’ll slay you (no joke).

In my case, they are subjects I enjoy and are passionate about and I would choose the same subjects again if we were to go back in time - I wouldn’t have it any other way. I failed to study consistently and manage my time correctly hence the low marks. I was a procrastinator who did things last minute and  almost always gave in to “flight” in my “fight or flight” scenarios which resulted in submitting  half completed assignments. Don’t take the path I took, I beg of you.

Do things right from the very beginning, starting now.

I wish everyone the best of luck, and I wish more people post their predictions because it’ll help ALL of us :)

I’ll update y’all in two weeks time🙂
‘til then, have a great time :))

Your QCE certificate and ATAR are different and indicate different things. First of, congratulation on your early offer at QUT, I am also planning on attending QUT but my desired course doesn’t have an early offer :(.

Anyway, as long as you gather 20 points, you will get your QCE. This includes year 11, and you get 1 point for passing each semester for each subject (there are different ways of attaining points too, VET courses for example). Even if you fail an exam or an entire subject one year, you can still get a QCE. If you passed each subject in year 11 for example, you would already have 12 points, and would only need 8 more (Sorry, I’m assuming you passed those subjects in yr11 because some schools don’t always allow you to continue subjects into year 12 if you don’t pass the year 11 units)

This part is probably not valid, it’s just my personal opinion-your subjects are the stereotypical high scaling subjects, so maybe your 40/100 in specialist mathematics could be scaled up a bit. However, there is no way of knowing, it is extremely unpredictable

I’m sorry if I got any facts wrong, if I did, let me know!

I'm guessing around 91-92?
