QCE Specialist Math point

Hello guys,
I'm new here and everything but I really am just curious about something. I'm currently in grade 11 and we had our assignment in specialist last term and a test this term (term 2) which we have learnt the last term. I've passed the assignment however, I've failed the test which brought my overall score down. My overall score for specialist is a fail and my teacher had mentioned that that would contribute 0 points for my qce. I've also submitted my change form already as I don't think this is the path for me.

So what worries me a lot is that my teacher had mentioned that this result will affect me sometime in life and I can't stop thinking about it and not sure of what she meant exactly. I did a research that you need at least 20 points to graduate. I'm confused on how the whole QCE thing work.

I was never expecting they would start counting it in year 11 as to why I don't give much effort. Do they start counting now or does it start in year 12? Also, I'm taking  6 subjects - up to 4 points per subject right? so does it mean they only count 5 of your subjects?

I know I'm overthinking it and this may sound ridiculous and silly but since I've failed this, is it still possible for me to get an appropriate amount of qce points? or would this really affect me a lot as in getting less than 20 qce points or somehow affect my ATAR too?

As a year 11 student your scores are calculated under the new system. You'll get an ATAR calculated from your 5 best subjects (after scaling) [or it can be four general subjects + a VET subject   but this doesn't seem to be your case]. English is the only subject type were you have to have passed at least one of them, so failing/dumping spec is fine - they'll just use your other subjects for your ATAR calculation.

Units 3&4 go to the ATAR but units 1&2 are also important for eligibility for the QCE (even though they don't go towards the ATAR).

To be awarded the QCE you need at least 20 credits (so make sure not to fail your other subjects & talk to your teachers if you think you're in danger of that. There's also rules abut where these credits come from but you don't need to worry about these :) ) and to meet the literacy and numeracy requirements. If spec was your only maths you may want to check how you would meet the numeracy requirements.

TLDR; ATAR calculation will be fine but you should check that you're meeting all of the QCE requirements

I know this is all a bit complicated and much to take in so let me know if any of this is unclear and/or you have more questions :)

Edit: improved clarity

I think this is how you reply but thank you thank you very much for clearing it up  :) :). I'm also taking math methods so my numeracy should be alright.
I just want to clarify that the assignment and test I just had for Spesh was only based in UNIT 1. We are currently starting UNIT 2 but I'm gonna ditch the subject next week and move to accounting.

I was just wondering if the qce points are counted like
UNIT 1 = 1 QCE point
or UNIT 1 + 2 = 1 QCE point
per subject

If it helps my subjects are:
English
Methods
Chem
Physics
Art
Spesh (--> accounting)

I have passed the rest of them  :) assuming I pass all these for the rest of the year (end of grade 11), how much would my qce points roughly around? Anyways, still thank you very much  ;) ;).

Yeah that's how you reply :)  & you're right that since you're doing methods your numeracy will be fine

As per this Each unit is 1 point so assuming you pass the rest of your yr 11 units you'll have 11 points at the end of year 11. Then if you continue and pass all those subjects in year 12 you'll get 12 more units - bringing your total to 23 units.

You're 100% welcome!! :)

It's probably worth clarifying that Unit 3 and 4 results travel as a pair so if you pass both units you'll get 2 points towards your QCE but if you fail one unit, you won't get any points for Units 3 and 4 in that subject. Units 1 and 2 travel separately.
