Title: Are year 12s doing HEAPs of GAT study?
Post by: Coolgalbornin03Lo on September 29, 2020, 11:51:13 am
I’ve seen year 11s on here doing 50 practise GATs but I have 5 3/4s I can barely keep up with! I was planning to do the full thing spread over a few days (I.e writing task one today Friday task 2 and next week multiple choice).

Is this doing too little? I figured it was better than doing nothing but maybe it’s not enough.......I wish our school forced us to do a GAT so I wouldn’t have to carve into study time And relaxation time  :'(

Personally, I'm doing none. I did the GAT last year, and they have this year given us tips for the GAT, but I'll not do anything more. It's not really something you can study for anyhow, I figure.

In the past no one really studied for the GAT apart from those super-super-keen students. This year I think it will be a bit different with students putting a little bit of effort in. There will be those who go to the extremes but I don't think it will be that common. I think doing 1-2 practices would be the norm around the state and those numbers going a bit further up for students on AN.

Personally, I don't think the GAT is something you can actually study that much for apart from maybe the writing section. Having a good structure is important for this section and something one can practice. A lot of the other things tested are skills developed over a students lifetime rather than a month or two so can be harder to improve on. However, being familiar with the test would be very useful in order to maximise your output on it.

My school made me do one and that's all I'm going to do in terms of preparation. I think it's helpful to go over what the writing pieces want of you and generally have a plan in terms of timing but apart from this I don't think there's much point in doing tonnes of practice. As you said there are way better uses of your time. Just go in there and do your best  ;D.

I'm in the same position! There's seriously NO time for me to even think of doing a practise GAT!

My school ran a practise GAT and gave general feedback. I don't think I'll be writing any essays - only going through tips/tactis for the writing tasks etc.

I'm only planning to do a couple so I can get a hang of the structure and have some strategies approaching the exam :)

You don't have to do as many as 50 practice gats
Maybe just look at 1 make sure u get the idea of it and then leave it.

I'm planning to do one practice so that I'm not completely unfamiliar when it comes to the GAT.  But not really planning stress too much at the same time.
