Title: Is an A+ actually required for a 40?

I know somebody who got either:

A,A+, B

Or

A+, A, B

I can’t remember the grades for each unit but they DEFINITLEY got a B in the exam and still got a 40 in biology? What does that mean for everything that says a (strong) A or A+ is required for a 40+?

P.S these are this persons letter grades on the VCAA website NOT raw school SACs.

EDIT: I mean A+ in exams/SACs like either or.

I would be very surprised if someone got a B on the exam and got a 40 (adding to this the possibility that they didn't have A+ A+ sacs makes it even more unlikely). A high B on last years exam was equivalent to a study score below 35 (more likely in the 32-34 range).

However, it is possible to get a 40 without an A+. If someone has A+ A+ A and the two A+'s for sacs are very high A+s (e.g. 99-100) and their A on the exam is a very high A it is quite plausible for them to get a low 40s study score.

Scoring an A+ on the exam and having A's for sacs is also very possible given the exam is worth 60% and if someone scores a high A+ they can afford to have lower sacs for a 40.

yes it is possible! i got A+, A+, A for English and received a 41 (according to statement of marks, U3: 95/100, U4: 69/70, EXAM: 44/60)

Hey sorry if this is obvious but what scores ARE A+, A, B+ etc i was hoping to apply for Melbourne uni extension but I have never used the letter grading system and online answers vary. It A+ top 5% of students or like 95-100?
