Is physics easier than methods?

Hey guys,

So I’m doing physics and methods 1/2 this year in year 11, and so far I have found physics dry and just plugging values in formulas. However I find methods much more ‘fun’ and interesting. I also heard that in year 12 physics it will be a complete different story. Is it harder to score high in methods than physics?

Some topics are, but there are some topics that aren't and also require knowledge that is equivalent to that of specialist maths. Also can you please answer my recent poll and question? Thank you!  :)

Topics that require equivalent knowledge of specialist maths?

I’m curious as to which topics you think that would be.

In general to answer the original question. Obviously it depends on an individual basis so I can’t give an answer that will be correct to everyone. But for me, someone who didn’t find written work came as easily (eg English, BM and Physics worded questions), I would rage it is harder to get 45+ in Physics, but easier to get 30-40. You can pretty easily rote learn content and formulas and do decently in Physics I would say it is a bit more challenging to do the same in methods.

The Physics study design is tending more towards worded questions and the exams are matching this.

Like kinematics and vectors for example.

I did both Physics and Methods last year and I found it easier. Most of the questions are pretty repetitive in Physics are pretty straightforward compared to questions in Methods. Yr 12 Physics is a step up from yr 11 but they just involve harder questions (usually questions are pretty much plugging in values) However, certain concepts in Physics are pretty hard to understand, especially Relativity and Light/Matter. I feel like anyone who is good at math would excel at physics in most cases, but I wouldn't say the same the other way around. Methods was harder to score higher for me than Physics.

Keeping in mind that I didn't do physics (just methods) however I do know the concepts taught since a few of my friends did it and so did my brother. I would say physics is easier for a couple reasons - the cohort of methods is more competitive (shown by the higher scaling) and also methods uses calculus, physics does not.

In the end though, it's probably going to depend on the individual person and their own strengths.
