Where do chemical engineers work?

What kind of environment does a chemical engineer work in? Is it an office or lab vocation?
Also, are most of the jobs based in rural areas? or are there any in the city? (e.g. melbourne, sydney)
Hope you can help!

Sorry for reviving an oldish post.

You can work in a variety of places. From what I've read the majority of jobs land you at chemical plants, oil refineries, mining. Depending on what your job/role is you can probably be office based, or work in a lab if it's design/research.
