Title: How/What should I focus on for my Practical Investigation on Transformers?
Post by: BurningCookies on September 01, 2018, 06:13:12 pm
So my cohort has begin our final Area of Study for Unit 4, whereas other schools are presumably done it at the beginning of Unit 4.
As said in my subject, I want to focus my practical investigation towards electricity and transformers (U3O2).
Although I know which variable I can choose from, I am not sure which ones would be suitable for a 3/4 investigation, rather than something I could easily do in Unit 1/2 (including their effect on their dependent variable/s).

Anyone got any ideas?

Better question: Would this be a good research question for my Investigation?

"Does the input voltage or the number of turns of a secondary coil in a transformers system affect its power loss?"

"Does the input voltage or the number of turns of a secondary coil in a transformers system affect its power loss?"

- Your wording implies that it's a case of one or the other, rather than the possibility of both or neither

- You need two continuous independent variables, and it could be argued that number of coils is discrete if you can only have integer values (no decimals) - check your teacher's thoughts on this

- It seems like you are talking about power loss across the transformer, rather than in a system which includes transformers. Is this the case?
