My friend finished year 12 this year with a 46 raw in spesh, but bombed methods and only got 39 raw (the methods exams this year were extremely difficult). Would he still be alright being a methods tutor despite his sub-40 methods score? He expected to get high 40s/50 raw before the methods exams.

Yes. High study score =\= good teacher.
39 raw is a VERY respectable score especially considering this year’s exams may have been a curveball for some people. It’s possible he just got unlucky.

Ive seen lower scores become effective tutors so it should be fine. Obviously it would be more difficult to get students or get hired at a tutoring company but it wont stop someone from being a good teacher and end up tutoring.

Quote from: Lear
High study score =\= good teacher.

Quoted for emphasis.

Reasoning: You can achieve a 50 study score and have the personality and enthusiasm of a peanut. Which in turn leads to poor/ineffective communication of concepts and thus not being a satisfactory tutor. Just because one knows how to play the game, doesn't mean they should have a golden ticket to be a tutor. A tutor is somebody who has an ability to effectively communicate, is enthusiastic about their subject and caters learning to the person they're tutoring. Like Lear has stated, 39 is still a fantastic score especially in Methods.
