Alternative pathways + entry to uni

Hi there!
Tomorrow, you all will be finding out whether you get your offers tomorrow! People will get an offer, or not get an offer for their course.

For those that do get into their desired courses, congratulations! For those that do not, it is not the end of the world. In today’s world, there is myriad amount of options and pathways for you to get into your dream university or degree!

Option 1: Complete a Diploma.
Some universities such as Monash and Swinburne offer diplomas, which enable you to study at the University the next year!

Option 2: Single Units
Students can complete two units (or four) and then apply for a range of degrees! (aka known as pathway programs in some unis).

Option 3: Credit Transfer from TAFE
Study a relevant course which is close to the university degree at TAFE and then apply for universities! (some subjects may be credited – you don’t have to do them again).

Option 4: Transfer from another Course
Do a year of university at a university with a lower cut-off and then transfer after a year! You will need a competitive grade (Credit is a good start).

Option 5: Foundations Programs
Study for 10 to 13 weeks at a university, learning how to write and form arguments (as well as other academic skills). After the finishing of this program, you will be admitted.

It may be restricted only to international students, depending on the university. These programs are extremely expensive and can cost up to $25,000 per year.

*These are the main options; there may be more university specific options. In that case, visit their website.*

Here is a tabled version for the main universities in Victoria, for yourself and others (to visualise what I mean).

Good luck!

It's worth noting that for most courses at most universities you can transfer mid-year too (so you just have to wait ~6 months before entering instead of a year). For reference, I required at least a 75 WAM (halfway between distinction and high distinction) to transfer to Arts/Economics (or commerce) at Monash.
